Title: Four Wheels for the Masses: The $2,500 Car
Post by: CheezeFlixz on January 08, 2008, 10:27:39 PM
I love the name ... Tata Motors ... I wonder if they're nice Tata's?
This thing will never be legal in the US.

The $2,500 Car (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/08/business/worldbusiness/08indiacar.html?ei=5065&en=35aebdd89f67e699&ex=1200459600&partner=MYWAY&pagewanted=print)

At that price, you can get a pair.

That's really a bit of a shame...they hope to replace clean, healthy bicycling with a dirty, lazy mode of transportation that they admit may be obsolete in a few years.

Here's another article complete with pic.   I think the engine is by Briggs&Stratton.

I can see it as an about-town commuter car for those who don't want to freeze their butts off or get wet buy using two wheeled transportation.

I've noticed it's getting billed as the "people's car" a lot. Wonder what Volkswagen thinks of that.

Like traffic in Indian cities isn't bad enough to begin with. Just trying to imagine those new superhighways they are building there clogged with millions of these things.

I read elsewhere stuff like a radio, air conditioning, a passenger side mirror, and a second windshield wiper only come with the luxury model. All those cars, new drivers, and no power steering, that'll be good and safe these days.

It might be useful as an export to other developing countires like they have talked about: South America, Africa, parts of Asia. Since they're using adhesives in part of the construction, I can wait to see the customising culture that will grow up around the things if they are successful. Like those minitruck/bus things in the Philippines.

It's kind of cute, but would that woman wearing the size 20 panties be able to fit inside it?
