Title: I have a FANTASTIC idea ... (at least I think so)
Post by: CheezeFlixz on January 26, 2008, 11:43:57 AM
I hate commercials ... really, really hate them ... Billy Mays, Debbie Meyers, limp tally-wacker, Bob, Nutri system, any of them.

Well you can have a junk mail feature on your e-mail, why not commercials? Have a junk button on your remote that says junk and a box that records audio that records audio patterns and when you list a commercial as junk as soon as the box matches the audio pattern it's automatically mutes the the TV. Seems simple enough ... commercial comes on and it say, "Hi folks, Billy Mays here ... MUTE! Now how to automatically get it to come back on is another trick. I guess the mute feature could also included a timer for the known length if the commercial, this could be put into a central database like many spam programs use that like obnoxious commercials and mutes them.

Anyway that's my idea of the moment ... but alas poor Yorick I must go work.

I think somebody tried that back in the early '90s, but the folks that make commercials got around it by suing the guy that invented it, & then developed their own technology to override muter doohickey.

Sorta' makes ya' wonder who the V-Chip's really supposed to be protecting.

Actually I'd prefer an add on to your idea for this guy.  Hit a button that sends several thousand watts of electricty into Billy Mays.  That guy is the antichrist of annoying.

Wasn't Magnavox Smart Sound? I still think it should be made as an add on and not incorporated into the TV that's a way I think of getting around it. We have the technology.
