Title: The Killing of Sister George (1968) Post by: lester1/2jr on February 01, 2008, 10:21:18 AM Somewhere between "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane" and "Closer" is this classic from director Robert Aldrich (who in fact directed "baby jane"). This is a unique black comedy about a hilarious alcoholic actress who plays "sister george" on a corny TV show and fears she is going to be written out due to her brash behaviour and the rising popularity of it's new pompous star. Though it is 2 hours and twenty minutes long with alot of dialogue, it moves fairly quickly. George, as she is called on and off her show, is like a 65 year old Johnny Rotten. She has a twisted relationship with her beautiful young lover and with the world really. She says and does just what's on her mind, even if it means big trouble for her career or relationship. Though it is primarily a comedy, there is blatant S and M and lesbianism acted out briefly and discussed and so forth throughout. There's even a little blashemy, as George is accused of assualting two young nuns, who she describes as " having little faces like two white mice". Not for the social conservatives out there but an uprorious good time for the rest.
