Title: Any Actors/Actresses that you hate?
Post by: ELOrocks17 on February 05, 2008, 10:09:39 AM
Are there certain Actors/Actresses that you think ruin a movie, or that you think should not be in the acting profession? Here is my list:

1. Owen Wilson
2. Dudley Moore
3. J-Lo
4. Brad Pitt (He was good in IWTV)
5. Julia Roberts

Do you have a list?

1. Vince Vaughn
2. Owen Wilson
3. Claire Forlani
4. Jessica Alba (hot but can't act)
5. Dane Cook

Those are my top 5 but an honorable mention goes to Will Smith and Susan Sarandon.

Keanu Reeves, and that's about it.  There are plenty of actors/actresses who I don't like just because of the material they choose to be seen in (Adam Sandler, Angelina Jolie) but I'd give them a chance if they were cast in something that looked interesting.  But Reeves is one of the few who can actually consistently detract from an otherwise fine movie (see BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA), yet still consistently get work.

The following get on my nerves but I can tolerate them at times, usually for the sake of others:

Mark Wahlberg
Nicolas Cage
Adam Sandler
Will Ferrell
Jackie Chan (since he went Hollywood)
Paris Hilton (not an actress)

These are the people who's movies I deliberately avoid:

Eva Mendez
Elizabeth Hurley
Bette Midler
Nicole Kidman
Brad Pitt
Steve Carrell
J-Lo
Lindsay Lohan/Paris Hilton/Jessica Simpson (these 3 are just the same person in different clothes)
George Clooney

I'll post others as I think of them.

Personally, I think Bram Stoker's Dracula was a flaming pile of Jar Jar turds.  So Reeves didn't bother me at all in that setting (sort of a distracting pain principle).

Actors/actresses whose _work_ I can't stand (as I don't know any of them to know if I can't stand them or not):

1.  Pauly!  Shore!
2.  Almost anything Christian Slater, except Heathers.
3.  Adam Sandler
4.  Jessica Simpson, aye,
5.  J-Lo.

I generally hate actors who serve as comedic relief...although for some of the following it doesn't necesarily hold true...in no particular order...

1.) Sandra Bullock
2.) Owen Wilson
3.) Chris Tucker
4.) Tom Cruise
5.) Adam Sandler (haven't found a movie yet where he made me laugh)
6.) Jennifer Aniston
7.) Jerry Seinfeld
8.) Shia Lebouf (based souly on the Transformers movie)

There more but I can't think of them now.

You've pretty much mentioned them all:

- Most SNL alumni, from Chevy Chase and Dan Ackroyd to Paulie Shore. I'd only save Bill Murray from this bunch, and only because of his latest stuff with Wes Anderson or Sophia Coppola.

- Nicholas Cage. He was an OK actor, but he's become a joke.

- Uma Thurman. I don't hate her, but for some reason I can¡t care for any part she plays.

- Mark Wahlberg. He's not too bad, but certainly no good either. They way he plays any part is almost interchangeable.

- Ben Stiller. Again, not that bad an actor, but I just can't find him funny.

I can stand Adam Sandler, it's his movies I can't stand. Of course, it's his fault, as he has complete control of them, but I sort of find him likeable as far as he doesn't ham it up, like in "Little Nicky".

2.  Almost anything Christian Slater, except Heathers.

Karma for that - my sentiments exactly.  Heathers was thee classic 80s movie (IMO) but I'm afraid it was the first and last good movie with this guy lol.

I'd have to say that Ben Affleck pretty much ruins anything nowadays.  Mallrats -his presence was tolerable; Dazed and Confused was ok because he gets the shaft.

Funny thing was, I heard him interviewed on NPR once last year and he blames Gigli's failure on his J-lo relationship.  Didn't dawn on him that the movie totally sucked donkey no matter who starred in it.

I also detest Tom Cruise, even if he is the main character in Eyes Wide Shut, one of my favs, but then, his presence is part of the message, even if he was unknowingly the butt of the joke :)

.Chevy Chase-(FLETCH and it's sequels come immeaditly to mind...)
.Whoopie Goldberg-( I don't even think she's a good comedian!)
 . Val Kilmer

Pauly Shore is great!  Buuudy!
I guess I like him because I used to listen to a lot of his stand up comedy before he got into movies.

I do agree about Woody Allen.  Ugh!

Most definitely Pauly Shore (I am glad that his ride is almost over.) Woody Allen as well. He was someone who in the 70's you had to like because you were supposed to. It was a masochistic peer pressure. Adam Sandler is hit or miss there is no middle. Some others...

Tom Green, I think he lay in the same dung heap with Pauly Shore. I pray for no re-birth.

Barbara Streisand, this is politics aside, she was another 1970's critically acclaimed irritation.

Kevin Costner, even in the movies with him that I like he still annoying.

Kevin Costner
Patrick Swayze
Demi Moore
Woody Allen
Barbara Streisand.

Most people mentioned so far, I actually like.  Pauly Shore, Owen Wilson, Ben Stiller, Steve Carrell, Jim Carrey, I like them all.   :buggedout:

Costner... used to hate him too, but he has redeemed himself, at least to me, with "Open Range" and "Mr. Brooks".

"Tin Cup", however, must be one of the worse movies of the 90s, and that's mostly thanks to Costner's overinflated ego. I'm surprised he took flak because of "Waterworld" and "The Postman", because this one is even worse, 135 minutes of neverending unnerving-ess and a tribute to a min character who is a complete jerk.

Die?  Only on film I'd say..

I thought Demolition Man was pretty darned watchable.  Stallone's non-existent acting skills in that one were much offset by the ghastly humor.

And hey, Stallone was in.. what was that called, Cop Land?  That one was good.  And Stallone's gotta get a free pass for that inimitable way he roars "I ahrrrrm theee larrrrhw!" in Judge Dredd (even though that one mangles the comic pretty thoroughly).

I object somewhat to saying "die" and "hate" for the actors themselves, though.   You don't know Stallone, per se, so you can't really hate him.   You can sure hate his work... though with the people mentioned on this board, isn't he pretty small change?

"Judge Dredd"! One day I'll gather the courage to admit I enjoyed that one. Alright, it sucks, but I got a lot of kicks of Stallone's pairing with Rob Schneider.

Jessica Simpson, who I also despise as a "singer"....other than the obvious appeal to some men, can someone PLEASE tell me why she's famous?  Anyone?

Tom Cruise, who I feel is horridly overrated as an actor.

Steven Segal

Angelina Jolie, she might be pretty but she's way overrated too.

I agree.  I'm a little bit bothered by the language that gets used.  These people are entertainers.  If we don't like their performance, we don't pay $$ to see them.  It's really no more complicated than that.

Hate 'em?  They should die?  C'mon.

As I understand it, this site, and this forum's membership, is premised on liking that which others generally don't like.  To say we "hate" someone's acting in the same forum as claiming the entertaining virtues of BIKINI BLOOD BATH, MANKILLERS or SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS seems more than just a little bit funny to me.

Man, I wish I had a copy of TARANTULA around here....

A big  from me for that Neville.  And can anybody tell me why "According To Jim" is popular?  It's everything that's bad about sitcoms.

It's even worse than "George Lopez", and that's saying something!

I wouldn't consider it 'popular' over here.  I think the reason it's still on is, it warrants enough viewers to not cancel it, but doesn't warrant enough viewers to make it a smash hit like Friends or Everybody Loves Raymond.

I dislike Steven Segal, mainly for the fact that he can't act, but used to claim that he could take out anybody and that Aikido was the supreme martial art.

David Spade is not what he used to be.  His new stuff I can take in small doses.  He really went down hill as far as his acting once Chris Farley passed away.  Those two always made me laugh when they worked in tandem, or when Spade was still on SNL.

Martin Lawrence is another actor I can't stand that much.  He's not that funny IMO and he's more or less a d list actor.

I used to think Tom Green was funny, but I was just an immature teenager when that happened.  Now I think he dumb.

Jessica Simpson is really bad.  Her career is almost over and I'm glad for that.  Paris Hilton, well she's not an actress, she a humping post.

Paulie Shore is AWFUL.  He's annoying and not funny at all.

Ozzymandias speaks: There are very few celebrities I dislike with a passion, but Segal...ARGH! :hatred:

First of all his movies never interested me. They were all sort of the same thing. What really got me was there was a story about him in some magazine and he threw a fit because his grandmother said he had asthma as a child. He said he didn't want that revealed because it made him look like a weakling. Funny, Teddy Roosevelt and Harry Truman both had asthma as kids, but that makes their story inspiring.

Let me throw out another name: Debbie Reynolds. When she was young she looked a girl I liked in junior high that refused me. Beyond that, it is her bitterness about her daughter, Carrie Fisher, was in one movie that made more money than all of hers put together. GET OVER IT! The reason it made more money it was cooler than any of Debbie Reynolds movies.

Add to these two Timothy Carrey (he looks like he smells bad), Pat Brady (goofy facial expressions) and Willie Best (He is a degrading stereotype...of people with severe brain damage).

Ozzymandias has spoken!!!

I have an addidtion for mine, but mine is sorta or a love/hate type thing.  Another one I want to add is Eddie Murphy.

I loved his older stuff (Coming to America, 48 Hrs) before he went to Disney.  Once he started doing Disney films he really went down hill.

Re.  The continuing saga of Steven Segal --
Not living in Boulder County, y'all may have missed the fact that Segal paid a Buddhist monk/monastery to name him as a Bohdisatva, or, Divine Maifestation of Buddha on Earth.  I poo you not . . .
Boulder is rife with over-educated white, Western Buddhists of every stripe, so this event caused no end of hubbub --
I used to see Segal working out in a local gym here all the time, and he filmed at least one of his films in the area.  Never spoken to the man.  Wouldn't particularly want to . . .

Why am I not even a little surprised at this?

I was in Big Lots this morning getting my snacks and drinks for the day and I saw a Steven Segal energy drink with his single look ugly mug on the can, I don't remember the name of it but I think it had other claimed snake oil properties in it too.
But thinking of some of the Segal comments on these threads I just started cracking up laughing and the fact I'm still about 70% sick I started hacking up a lung.

I think poor Woody Allen has caught a lot of flack on this thread, so I'm going to give him a wee prop:
Allen in his youth can be hysterically funny and very watchable.  If you've seen "Bananas", "Sleeper", or "Take the Money and Run", you know what I mean --
In his later years, though, he did start phoning it in a bit . . .
"The Curse of The Jade Scorpion", for instance, is almost unwatchable.  Not because Allen is bad, particularly, but because he's barely there at all -- sort of saying his lines like someone doing a tired Woody Allen impression.
Those of you who think you hate Woody Allen, give the first "Casino Royale" a try, or the 3 films I mention.  Plus, if you see it in the cutout bin, there's a wonderful double-LP of him called "Woody Allen:  Standup Comedian", from 1964, which is still funny & engaging.  For me, "Stardust Memories" seems to be the cutoff point:  After this film, he seems to have said everything he has to say & just repeats himself, even though I did enjoy "Hannah and Her Sisters", though he doesn't appear in that one.
It's sort of like The Marx Brothers:  Everyone still talks about "Night at The Opera" or "Duck Soup", but few people even realize that such a thing as "The Big Store" even got made --

Matthew Lillard. even looking at this guy's face makes my bowels implode.

Ed Norton. always unconvincing in any role. - or maybe it's just me. never see other people slating him

Vin Diesel. just...no.

a couple of minor gripes at previous suggestions:

Owen Wilson... funny in Meet The Parents.
Brad Pitt... excellent in Seven.
Keanu Reeves... really good in Bill & Ted
(in my opinion)

Agreed, and I'd add LOVE AND DEATH to the list of funny early Woody Allen films.  Anyone who only knows Allen from his post-ANNIE HALL work would be surprised to find out that he was once actually very funny.
