They could try dropping the price. That might convince me to give Vista another shot. That and the availability of freeware that will strip the installation down to bare bones.

I bought an upgrade pack a while back, but found it just didn't like some of my hardware. Got rid of it. Now, I'm building a new dual-core machine, specifically for video editing and 3D animation. I was planning on just putting Ubuntu on it. But I can't say I like any of the Linux video editors I've tried (seems to be the one thing Linux doesn't offer). Meanwhile, 64-bit XP is far from perfect. I'd give Vista another go if they slashed the price, but otherwise, forget it. I'll make do.

But, this is just the kind of thinking I've come to expect. Spend money on a campaign to change public perception, rather than simply adjust the price to suit demand. People will forgive an awful lot for a bargain.
