Title: The redesigned and revamped Cold Fusion Video Reviews!
Post by: nshumate on February 16, 2008, 01:36:11 PM
Presenting, for your weekend delectation, a redesign far too long in the making:  The complete restructuring of Cold Fusion Video Reviews!  Now with WordPress under the hood, the new site is more responsive, easier to maintain, easier to edit, and just plain cooler with the hip kids!

But don't just take my word for it:

Plus!  As part of the redesign kickoff, you can participate in the Great Typo Hunt, and win cool custom prizes!  Full details here:

Looks pretty good.

If I had one complaint it would be that the home page is way too long.
It seems to scroll on forever.  (it needs to be cut by at least half)
The average reader won't even get a quarter of the way down the page before they stop reading.  It's just too much on one page.
I would put one, maybe two reviews on the home page and that's it.

Also, the text for the links such as "Feedback", "Forum", "Mailbag" etc... need to be a bit larger as they're somewhat easy to miss.
There's also a lot of white space. (the background)
Maybe fill it in a bit.  Or rearrange the text to fit differently.

Just thought I'd offer some constructive criticism.

I like it, but I agree with Ash about the homepage.  I wouldn't change the number of reviews, though; I might even put more.   I'd start using those "to read the whole article, click here" links after the first couple of paragraphs of each review instead. (I imagine search engines might like those too, as they give you an extra incoming link to the review page).

Also, at the very end of each review I see characters like this: "-->", and at the very bottom of the page a ">."  Tags that weren't closed properly?

That's weird.  What browser are you using?

IE 7.0.  I just checked it out in Firefox, and it looks totally different.  Only the first paragraph shows up, rather than entire reviews, and the control characters don't appear at the end.

Whoa -- the ENTIRE REVIEW shows up for each of the front-page reviews in IE7?  Damned standards-noncompliant POS browser... Excuse me while I go code-diving...

Okay, try it now.  THAT'S what I want it to look like.

Loooking good, Nate!!!  I spent an hour this afternoon reading your reviews.  You need to post a review for HATCHET - I watched that one last night and it is a truly awesome bad movie!

Ah...so having full reviews on the homepage was unintentional.

Looks much better now.
