Title: Searching for title about a 70's/80's? Made for TV movie with indian...
Post by: EAA on February 17, 2008, 05:38:43 AM
I once saw a I think made for tv movie back in the 70's or 80's that had a group of people walking around in the woods and one was an indian and i think the group got split up and the indian and i think some woman ended up stopping in the woods and the indian made a circle to surround the both of them i think to keep evil spirits away?  I wish i knew more,  it was not winter time in the woods so no snow.  I had just recently found 2 others i couldn't remember but finally did through internet and those are Bermuda Depths and Midnight Offerings.  I found a copy of Bermuda Depths 1978 off Ebay but never had the chance to see Midnight Offerings 1981 again which are both made for tv movies.  Anyone ever see those films?  And know where to find a copy of Midnight Offerings if so.

Maybe SHADOW of the HAWK (1976)? I saw it long ago...so my memories are vague, but here's a link-

 http://imdb.com/title/tt0075199/combined

Though it was first released theatricaly in 1976 by Columbia, ABC TV picked it up and aired it in 1981.

This one is so old it seems pointless to offer a suggestion yet so obscure I cannot resist. While SHADOW OF THE HAWK seems like a likely candidate, I'd also pitch SHADOW OF CHIKARA aka CURSE OF DEMON MOUNTAIN out there. Made in 1977 by the one-of-a-kind Charles B. Pierce, its plot more or less exactly matches "a group of people walking around in the woods" (and the mountains) for 80-90 minutes. One of the group is a woman (played by Sondra Locke) and one is a Native American. There are several sequences where the characters huddle in darkness and try to avoid getting picked off by an unseen evil force, and I am pretty sure "a circle to surround" them is made towards the end, either by the Native American or by the crazy mountain man character played by Joe Don Baker. It was not made for TV but I bet it was quickly sold in some package to syndication and got a lot of play on TV in the late 70s and early 80s. (Although I never saw this one on TV, I definitely saw Pierce's LEGEND OF BOGGY freaking CREEK one hundred times on low-band TV as a kid.) Good movie to check out in any event: great cast, plus the opening credits music is The Band's "The Night They Drove Ol' Dixie Down", and Slim Pickens even shows up in the film to play Virgil Caine!
