Did anyone ever have a sticker collection?  I found my old sticker collection from when I was a kid at my parent's house during a recent visit.  It really told the tale of a kid growing up in the 80s;

WWF stickers of Hulk Hogan, Jimmy Snuka, Captain Lou
Wendy's Wheres The Beef Stickers
Michael Jackson Thriller Stickers
and so on...

My wife and I actually started a sticker collection for our son. I think we're having  more fun with it than he will some day.

Somewhere around this house I have a spiral notebook, from nearly 40 years ago, a few pages of which has my Wacky Packages stickers ...

Ah, the sticker collection. I remember the carefree days gone by of trying to get every Garbage Pail Kids character, including their aliases. What a great way for Topps to cheat kids out of more money: use the exact same art for two cards, with the only difference being the name at the bottom. My cousins liked to stick their GPK cards on their walls and notebooks, while I was little Mister Collector and tried to horde them, convinced they'd buy me a house someday... and then our house burned down and 6 years of collection turned into ash and smoke.

I remember the days of the sticker albums too. I'd by them at our elementary school's annual book fair. The only one I remember clearly was the Voltron book and one sticker in particular. You had to put two or more stickers together to create comic books like panels in the story book, and I remember having one sticker that was half of a panel. It featured the princess on horseback with her arms wrapped around somebody. No idea who though, because the guy was in the other sticker.  :bluesad:

Other favorite childhood stickers: Grossville High (think Garbage Pail kids, only they were teens and didn't look like Cabbage Patch Mutants) and scratch & sniff.

I remember those sticker albums from the grocery store..

Never had a sticker collection.  The closest thing I got to that was my X-Files trading cards  *lol*

The only stickers I had were ones that came with old trading cards. I remember having a bunch from The Empire Strikes Back and E.T. sets.

Well, some of them had different puzzle backs.  :)


i remember those!  Had a couple of them.  Didn't like them as much as GPK, but they were still pretty cool.

BTW, you're house burnt down?  Wow!  When/how did that happen?

Okay, so there were TWO differences between the cards that gave Topps as excuse to sell the same damn card to we kids who were too ignorant to understand the concept of being ripped off.  :tongueout:


It was the summer of '96. There was a round of heat lighting (all the flash, none of the rain) and apparently it hit the ground somewhere near our house. Being that the place was some 50 or so years old, the electrical wiring around the stove wasn't exactly the best. Thing shorted out, and the place caught fire. My sister was the only one home, but she got herself and the pets out, so there weren't any injuries or casualties, but everything was either burnt to hell, smoke damaged, or water logged beyond recognition. Fortunately my comic collection made it out fairly unscathed (though I was still able to claim $2000 from the insurance company for them), but my collections of GPK cards, action figures, video games, and dirty magazines were lost.  :bluesad:

Enough about me though, back to the Grossville stuff, I can't believe there isn't a Wikipedia page for those things! That's something I may need to remedy when the box of them I just ordered from eBay get in... Hey BTM, you can have whatever doubles I get once I've put together a complete set. :cheers:

I had tons of stickers when I was a kid.
Sticker collecting was one thing I could do with my female friends at the time.
I remember this store at the mall called Coach House Gifts and they had an entire wall totally devoted to stickers.
Every time I went in there I was in heaven.

My favorites were the scratch n sniff's.  I can't even begin to imagine how many I had but it was a lot.
My 4th and 5th grade teachers used to put 'em on our papers if we did a good job.
My all time favorite was the popcorn one.

As for Garbage Pail Kids, every other kid on my block was envious of my monster sized collection.   :smile:
I was also one of those kids who hoarded them.  Actually peeling the sticker off the backing and sticking it on something was unthinkable to me.
What I remember most about GPK stickers was their smell.
All of them smelled like that pink bubblegum and would smell like that for a long time after you opened them.
Most of them were lost over time.  A huge chunk of them got sold by my mother at one of her many garage sales.  I got in trouble for something and she sold them!   :hatred:

By the way, did you know they've started reselling Garbage Pail Kids?
I went into a convenience store the other night to pay for gas and sitting on the counter next to me was a rack of baseball card packages and next to them, the new series of GPK!.
I might have to buy a couple of packs for old time's sake.   :thumbup:

So true about the smell. I almost wanted to shew on them because I thought the bubble gum flavor would be in them... nope, they just tasted like adhesive and plastic.  :lookingup:

And yes, the new GPK series has been out for a few years now. I first found out back in 2005 when my mom came across them at Target, bought a few packs and mailed them to me along with some glow-in-the-dark squishy brain rubber skeleton thing from the local dollar store. That was a good Halloween.  :thumbup:

I had a sticker collection too! I remember once my parents bought me a sticker maker, and I had a lot of fun with that. The fuzzy ones were the best. I remember the scented ones too...

BTW you still collect comics?  I used to collect those when I first moved out on my own.  Would probably start collecting them again if I actually had money.  (Although I did manage to get some for free from www.bookmooch.com (http://www.bookmooch.com).  (A cool website, btw.)

Sorry to hear about your house, though, it's a good thing no one (including the pets) were hurt.

Fortunately, i still have about fifty of my garbage pail kids stickers..had a lot more, but just try and keep stickers out of the hands of a small child..I imagine the progression of Rome was similar..

My brother was big into the Wacky Packages and I inherited them.  Luckily I still have them in a binder.  I've been buying a pack here and there of their new editions. 

GPK...ah yes.  I had a ton of these things and for whatever reason I can't recall, they disappeard one day.  I don't think my mother got rid of them behind my back or anything.  My parents actually bought them for me.  I'm a bit PO'd about not having them though.  I bought a few packs of their recent comebacks.

Yeah tell me about it.  My son has kind anhiliated my sticker book into a few different sections. Luckily he hasn't tried to rip off the stickers though. 

I had a bunch of these and most of them still work 20 years later! I loved the banana scented one.

I used to collect dinosaur stickers back in the '80's. The problem was that everyone else collected football stickers so it was nigh on impossible to swap any doublers.

These were my favorite stickers ever!! I wonder if they will ever reproduce these? I think I would buy tons of them.
