Title: Favorite movie quote.
Post by: Patient7 on March 08, 2008, 03:42:39 PM
I'm not sure, I think someone had a thread like this a while ago.

But still, from They Live by Rowdy Roddy Piper

"I'm here to kick a__ and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of bubble gum."

THE OMEGA MAN is overfilled with memorable quotes: Here's just a few samples:

"Hi. Another day, another dollar."

"There's never a cop around when you need one."

"Hi, Big Brother, how's your a$s?"

"Sorry the world didn't make it."

"Definition of a scientist - a man who understands nothing until there was nothing left to understand."

"Thanks a lot, you cheating bastard... "

But the most memorable of all to me is actually Heston watching and quoting "Woodstock": "Just to see, just to really realize, that if you have to be afraid to smile at someone, if you have to be afraid to walk down the street, what kind of world is that? Right?"

Hmm, now I know why this film remains such a huge personal favourite.

Actually SOYLENT GREEN and PLANET OF THE APES is filled with great quotes too:

SOYLENT GREEN:

Det. Thorn: "Who bought you?"
Hatcher: "You're bought as soon as they pay you a salary."

Det. Thorn: "I know, Sol, you've told me a hundred times before. People were better, the world was better..."
Sol: "Ah, people were always lousy. But there was a world, once."

PLANET OF THE APES:

George Taylor: "I'm a seeker too. But my dreams aren't like yours. I can't help thinking that somewhere in the universe there has to be something better than man. Has to be."

"Beware the beast Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport or lust or greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death."

And a personal guilty pleasure favourite along with the one in my signature:

Katsura Mafune: "I'm not alive. I may look like a girl, but I'm not, I'm a cyborg!"
Akira Ichinose: "Even if you're a cyborg... Katsura, I still love you!"

"Definition of a scientist - a man who understands nothing until there was nothing left to understand."

D'oh, you beat me to it.  I knew my primary choice would come from OMEGA MAN...and that was the one.

Right behind it I would mention

"Build coffins.  That's all you'll need."

"He has the stink of oil and circuitry about him!"

and one I actually find apropos more and more often nowadays sadly :bluesad: ... "At it again, I see. What'll it be tonight? Museum of Science? Some library? Poor miserable bastards!"

The lines that stand out for me are the simple ones that are delivered in the right way at the right time.

The Thing: "You've gotta be f**king kidding"

Robocop: "b***hes leave"

I agree that Heston quotes are fantastic. Used to have a bunch of WAVs from Planet of the Apes on my computer that I'd use for alerts. "It's a madhouse, a maaaadhooooouse!" or "You cut up his brain, you bloody baboon!" or "Take your stinking paws off me, you damn dirty ape!" Chuck is in full scenery-chewing mode for most of that movie.

Too many to choose from, but here are a couple of my favorites:

"If I didn't have puke breath, I'd kiss you." - Bob McKenzie, Strange Brew

Brando's "Not my night . . .coulda been a contender" speech from "On the Waterfront", delivered to Rod Steiger, is gold from beginning to end.  I won't quote the whole thing here, as it's quite long --

"Major Stasser has been shot . . . Round up the Usual Suspects!" -- Claude Rains, Casablanca

"Yeah, he's the kinda guy who'd knock my teeth out & then punch me in the mouth for mumblin' . . ." -- Bogart, The Big Sleep

"You know . . . for kids!" -- Tim Robbins, The Hudsucker Proxy

"Because you're stupid!  Stupid, stupid, stupid!!!" -- Need I credit this?

"You do know how to whistle, don't you? . . . You just put your lips together and . . . blow!" -- Lauren Bacall, To Have and Have Not

(Incoherent rooster crowing noises) -- Emil Jannings, Die Blaue Angle

"Mr. President, ask not what your nursing home can do for you, but what you can do for your nursing home . . . " -- Elvis/Bruce Campbell, Bubbah Ho-Tep

"You're a tomato!!!" -- director in Tootsie

"It's still not weird enough for me . . ." -- Bill Murray, Where the Buffalo Roam

"I have a tight grip on your trousers, Trevor!" -- Peter Cushing, Journey to the Center of the Earth

"You're so bossy, you ought to be milked!" -- some guy, speaking to some gal, in Robot Monster

There are so many great lines, I have a hard time sticking to one.
Though I'm particularly fond of KARLOFF's line in BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN: "Hate living... Love dead..."  This one, uttered by FRANK MORGAN, is perhaps my favorite:
"...Remember, my sentimental friend, that a heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others."

"They're eating her!  .... And then they're gonna eat ME! ....  OHMYGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-DUH!"     (Do I have to say it?)

What, no Army of Darkness?

"Gimmesomesugarbaby."

"Good, bad... I'm the guy with the gun."

That "I'm so wired" line from Shark Attack 3 just about made me fall out of my chair onto my face, paralyzed with laughter, when I heard it the first time.  That is just awesomely bad.

And, from the greatest of all the Westerns in my opinion (Unforgiven):

"Who is the fellow who owns this s**thole?"

"He should have armed himself.. if he's gonna decorate his saloon with my friend."

and of course,

"Deserve's got nothin' to do with it."

Pretty new around here.  Hey all

I will never get sick of this one although perhaps a bit lengthy for a quote.

That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about $109.95. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. "NOTAFINGA" Ralphie's father
"I went out to face the world again, wiser..." Ralphie (note, I use this one a lot when I realize something isn't as cool as I expected)
A few quotes from A Christmas Story:

"I have since heard of people under extreme duress speaking in strange tongues. I became conscious that a steady torrent of obscenities and swearing of all kinds was pouring out of me as I screamed."- This describes me on a semi-daily basis.

"Ralphie, you're lucky it didn't cut your eye! Those icicles have been known to kill people."

"Only one thing in the world could've dragged me away from the soft glow of electric sex gleaming in the window."

"You used up all the glue on purpose."- Something my grandfather would say, and in fact, probably has at some point.

"People like that should be put to sleep."

"Badgers? Badgers? We don't need no stinkin badgers."

"I told those guys, 'Never call chicks broads.'"

All from UHF.

That movie is filled with awesome quotes.
"Don't you know the Dewey Decimal system!"

A Christmas Story is loaded with quotable dialog;
this one really reflects my vocabulary...

"Now, I had heard that word at least ten times a day from my old man. He worked in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay. It was his true medium; a master."

Here a few more I can think of off hand because I'd be here listing the whole script if I could...

I think the funniest part was,

"Oh my god, I shot my eye out!"

But the whole movie is definitely a Classic.

Definitely a classic.  Despite the amount of hours I've spent watching it, and the fact that there's a 24 hour marathon on Christmas, and the fact I own the dvd and can watch it at any time, I still sit and watch it.

For the longest time, we had this sound clip on our answering machine:
Woman's voice:  "Sometimes in the night when it does get a little lonely, I reach over and touch it. Then it doesn't seem so lonely anymore."

And another good one:
Johnny: "I think you're just a big bully, picking on people smaller than you are!"
Ro-Man: "Now I will kill you."

And another:
Old Devil: "Give me the book or I'll kill you all."
Monk: "Don't threaten us, and get off our roof!"

"Don't shoot, I'm deaf or something."-- Don Knotts

"When all these junior psychopaths asked me what I was in for, I had to say I was there because I STOLE A FREAKING ROCK!"-- Tom Arnold

Handsome leading man guy to female love interest:

"You're so bossy, you ought to be milked!" --

I forgot one of the most quotable movies I know - O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Pappy O'Daniel: "Shake a leg Junior! Thank God your mammy died givin' birth; if she'd seen ya, she'd have died o' shame."

Homer Stokes: "These boys is not white! They ain't even old-timey!"

Homer Stokes: "This band of miscreants, this very evening, interfered with a lynch mob in the performance of its duty."

Pappy O'Daniel: "Wouldn't we look like a bunch of Johnny-come-latelies, braggin' on our own midget, doesn't matter how stumpy."

Delmar O'Donnell: "The preacher says all my sins is washed away, including that Piggly Wiggly I knocked over in Yazoo."
Ulysses Everett McGill: "I thought you said you was innocent of those charges?"
Delmar O'Donnell: "Well I was lyin'. And the preacher says that sin's been washed away too."

Washington Hogwallop: "Mrs. Hogwallop up and R-U-N-N-O-F-T."

Tommy Johnson: "I had to be up at that there crossroads last midnight, to sell my soul to the devil."
Ulysses Everett McGill: "Well, ain't it a small world, spiritually speaking. Pete and Delmar just been baptized and saved. I guess I'm the only one that remains unaffiliated."

This may have come up already, but it bears repeating:

"I'm gonna hit you so hard when you wake up your clothes are gonna be out of style!"

If you don't know where that's from I pity you.

(Watched it the other night. Yes, it is still fantastic.)

Tremors.

Val: Come on someone must have chased Him up there.
Earl: What someone that ain't scared of A winchester rifle?

I have heard this line in dozens of films but it works best here.

The Omega Man! Starring Charlton Heston.

From "Heaven Help Us" (I think), and I'm sure I don't have it near exact, but I always liked it:

You've masturbated 163 times since your last confession, and it's only been 30 days?

Yea, I'm averaging 5.4 times a day. .

I gotta watch that movie again. . .

My all time favourite snappy answer to a stupid question, from Dusk Til Dawn:

Did they look like psychos? Is that what they looked like? They were vampires. Psychos do not explode when sunlight hits them, I don't give a f*ck how crazy they are!

Also, from The Prophecy:

Little Tommy Daggett. How I loved listening to your sweet prayers. Then you would hop into bed, afraid that I was hiding under it. And I was!

and

Leave a light on Thomas

They're a bit flat without Viggo Mortensen's delivery but superb in the movie.
