Title: My List Of Films To View...............
Post by: Scott on April 02, 2008, 09:12:34 AM
Here's a list of films that I would like to check out. It's a short list, but a list never the less.

September Dawn
Seraphim Falls
The Assasination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
In the Valley of Elah
Love In The Time Of Cholera

I've only seen the Jesse James one on this list -- But I've seen it twice now, and I have to say unequivocally that it is a work of art -- My wife and I actually found it superior to "There Will Be Blood" in many ways.  It deals with multiple themes of loss, heroism, mythology, and boasts some of the finest plain old acting I've seen.  I would have said "In some time", but "In Bruges" is out in theatres still, and that's another exceptional film.
Can't speak for the rest of them, but "Jesse James" is powerful and touching in ways you wouldn't expect.

The only one I've seen on that list is Seraphim Falls, and I give it a .  A mediocre chase Western with an unecessary "existential" ending tacked on.

Peter Johnson, I'll move JESSE JAMES up my list. Also meant to add THERE WILL BE BLOOD to the above list.

Might be my type of film . Slow and scenic with some kind of story. Have enjoyed all the Westerns that have come to the big screen over the past 4 years, so I have to take a look, but I will keep it in mind. Thanks.

Well, if you do enjoy it, that won't make you a bad person in my eyes.   If you're looking for scenery, that's probably the film's finest point.  Pay attention to how the climate changes from the beginning to the end.

City of God is a pretty good film, I liked it. I also am not big on foreign films, the whole subtitle thing gives me a headache, but this film was worth it.
