Title: A Rather Horrid Reunion
Post by: Mr. DS on May 10, 2008, 04:19:25 PM
So my wife and her sister are going to a reunion concert of epic frightening proportions.  No, it isn't a satanic black metal band...rather something much more evil and sinister...

I loathed this band in middle school.  You know the sign of the times is bad when these guys reunite.  Ticket prices, $75.00.  I'd rather poke my eyeballs out with a rusty fork.

It seems the end times are nearly upon us.  :buggedout:

I better go re-read that apocalypse thread and get some ideas on how to survive. :teddyr:

I don't see the bad in this at all, actually.  Say what you want, but I liked New Kids.  I still pop in their greatest hits collection cd now and then.  My taste in music is pretty diverse.  I listen to them, Neil Diamond, Alice in Chains, Elvis and Weird Al, amongst many others.

Good Lord!  Are those guys still alive?   :buggedout:

I was a little too old to get caught up in the hype, but my little sister (who's now 32) was a rabid fan.  It was completely sickening.  Even by 80s standards, their songs were lame arse.  I know the Wahlberg boys did pretty well as adults, but I haven't seen or heard any of the others doing anything.

Poor bastards must need the money something awful   :bouncegiggle:

Well, Jonathon has been involved in real estate.  Danny Wood is a producer/musican still.  Mostly an indie artist, but eh.  Jordan had a brief comeback in like, '99/'00 when there was a boyband reunion, as did Joey (the little one.)  Joey was doing Broadway for a bit, as well as tv shows and things like that.  But, Donnie's the most succesful of them, making movies.

I don't think they're lacking for money, although, Donnie probably was throwing his old friends a bone by saying yes.

I was young when they were popular, around 5-8 years or so, so for me it's more a nostalgia thing.  But I love the songs.

It's a joke Happy... :drink:   I'm just amazed you knew where they all were.  I kind of shut them out of my brain like a bad dream.

Awww come on Dark, you know you love NKOTB!
I bet you "hung tough" to this song back in the day, didn't you?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZusIOLDRs8

(it's ok if you know the lyrics...no one here is going to hit you for it.   )

Love 'em or hate 'em, when New Kids On the Block were at their peak, they were a money making machine.
They sold millions of albums.

I was a fan back in the day.  Besides, I gotta keep up on the people who gave us this gem:

I heard one of there new songs on a local radio station this morning.  It's very Backstreet boys, N'Sync like and I hated it.

I think it's time that I get my suicide pack ready in case the worst happens.

I'd rather have the New Kids back than s*it like this:

"I Write Sins Not Tragedies" by Panic! At The Disco
http://youtube.com/watch?v=vc6vs-l5dkc

Famous Last Words by My Chemical Romance
http://youtube.com/watch?v=8bbTtPL1jRs

I'm open to all kinds of music, but think these two bands are incredibly dull and uninteresting.

Happy,

For once I have to disagree with you.

I thought the first song was ok but I love the second song.
I kicks ass!

I hate both of them.  Those two bands along with several like them.

The first one wasn't 'horrible', but I guess when you hear it 90 times a day, you tend to hate it, regardless of if it's the bands fault or not.

Does anyone notice there is a resurgance of awful bubble gum pop every 10 years or so?  Usually in the mid to late decade.

1970s
Menudo
various singers from tv shows

1980s
NKOTB
Debbie Gibson
Tiffany

1990s
Backstreet Boys
N Sync
98 Degrees
Britney Spears

Now we have The Jonas Brothers and Miley Cirus leading the charge.   :buggedout:

A co-worker of mine told me that when he was in college a friend of his got a call from Tiffany once since the phone systems were really screwy in the dorms he was living in.

I didn't really think of it til now, but yeah, seems to happen.  But they don't seem to stick around (usually) for more than like, what, 4 years at the most?

I think that tends to be the norm for those groups.  Be around for a bit, then go by the waste side.  Everybody gets their 15 minutes of fame.

The ebb and flow of their popularity is probably due to a new generation of young kids coming along, becoming obsessed with them and then outgrowing them. After a few "quiet" years, a new generation of bands is born for the next wave of pre teen girls.

Might just be me, but I like their new song.  It sounds less "new kids" and a bit more, uh, mature, I suppose.

There's no 'official' video yet, so it's just a picture of them with the new song.

I was a fan as a kid, and kids like everything.  I still like them though, and I don't know why.

I like some bubble-gum...
http://youtube.com/watch?v=mGL4btEIoTo

Every Mother's Son-"Come on Down to My Boat"

 http://youtube.com/watch?v=50b-Q-Z1bF0

...and...YES...they profess themselves to not be 'punk'-but pop/bubblegum!!!
the great and only...RAMONES!!!!!!
 http://youtube.com/watch?v=jNR_XVL5Npw

(probelly my favorite band of all time!!!)

It's odd...when I woke up this morn'(about 5:00 am) I was reading an old mag articale about the Ramones, and Johnny states-"We wanted to be the next Bay City Rollers."

 http://youtube.com/watch?v=nhdwvx_qcAg

...in fact,he also states they got their "HEY HO! LETS GO!" riff from that song!!! "S-A-TUR-DAY! SATERDAY!"

Please quit calling these guys like New Kids bands. They are groups, not bands.

Next,  be glad that it's not Hanson they went to see.

Not for nothing, and no disrespect or anything, but I at least give Hanson some credit.  They play their own instruments and write their own songs.  In fact they play a more grown up, rock style now as opposed to the whole "MMMBop" stuff.

I'm not rushing out to buy a Hanson album, but I do give them that.
