Well, most of the popular comics (at least most of the ones from Marvel) have either already been made into movies or are in some stage of pre-production.  But what about these less popular titles?  Will we ever see them on the silver screen?  Who will be the star(s)?

I'd like to see Moon Knight.

There are some photos of a She Hulk done in the 80s with Brigiette Nielsen. 

I'm hoping for a Rocket Racer movie. 

Guardians of the Galaxy? I'll admit to reading (and liking) the series in the '90s, but a movie? Why?

Dan Slott's recent run on She-Hulk was one of the most enjoyable comics I've read in a while. A law based superhero series might be enjoyable as a television series. It would never happen, but I would watch it.

I'm still waiting for that long promised Preacher miniseries that HBO has the rights to. Chances it will be done well? Slim to nil, but I still have hope.

If we're talking about the new Guardians of the Galaxy with Starlord, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Adam Warlock, Drax, Gamora and Quasar, I'd be all over that. I'd also get in line to see a Machine Man flick if it was current Machine Man post-Warren Ellis's Next Wave stuff.

I'm 100% behind Mofo about a weekly superhero law dramedy series! Dan Slott's earlier She-Hulk stuff was great!... before it got really complicated there at the end before Peter David took over and went down the baffling "Now she's a rough and tumble bounty hunter!" route. I guess generic manhunter stories sell better than witty legal humor? Bah. :hatred:

My choices for second tier Marvel characters I'd like to see in movies but never will? Hawkeye (who'd be played by a time traveling Errol Flynn), Blazing Skull (voiced by Ryan Reynolds), Silver Surfer (featuring Thanos as the villain), Luke Cage: Hero For Hire (done as a parody of  blaxploitation flicks complete with yellow shirt and tiara in all their "Sweet Christmas!" glory), Iron Fist (based on the current storyline by Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction), X-Factor (either the current group or the Havoc led team from the '90s), and a Hercules movie featuring the big beardo's current traveling companion Amadeus Cho.

I'm up for any incarnation of the Guardians of the Galaxy, although this new one seems pretty wild. :smile: I'd also like to see a Hawkeye movie, but if you couldn't get the time-traveling Errol FLynn( greatest casting ever) maybe Ryan Reynolds. I'd also like to see:

Yes! Yes! Not so much because he's a great hero but because he's got the one villain that absolutely needs a live-action incarnation: Black Talon! I just love the idea of a voodoo priest dressed up like a giant chicken... heh heh :teddyr:

An interesting question.  If I were a producer looking for propertes I thought were commercially viable I'd probably go for an anthology series like Alien Worlds, Tomb of Dracula, Tales of Voodoo, Vampire Tales, or Tales of Sex and Death.

My reasoning?

Simple Tales from the Crypt, The Twilight Zone, and The Night Gallery have proven anthology series are commercially viable properties that can make for great series both on the big and small screen.

But I am not (a producer) so I'd probably choose comics no one else would ever consider.  Namely titles with a 'mature' theme like Ironwood, Demi the Demoness, Druuna, or Lucifera. Of course I'd want them done right.  None of the dumbed down, targeted at emotionally immature tween emos, re-imagined nonsense that Hollywood spews out it's festering [BEEP].  (Vampirella anyone?)

OTOH the comics I'd just really like to see made into movies include. .

Gullivera (A really great spoof.  Better even than Flesh Gordon!)

Savage Sword of Conan (These had more than enough source material to create movies for dozens of years to come.)

Sadly there's probably no chance for Gullivera given the current puritanical politically correct trends, Rogue Trooper is probably too dark and bleak, Savage Sword would get caught up in the same tangle of law suits that clipped the wings of the most recent Conan/Red Sonja efforts, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs had a cartoon that tanked so Hollywood would probably turn it's nose up at it, and you're probably saying Aztec Who? and Star What? so the last two probably wont ever even get to the consideration stage.

Which leaves, uhm, a CGI SPIDER HAM movie?

What?  You don't remember the short lived SPIDER HAM spoof comic!?

This is turning into an interesting topic (more so than I expected when I started it).  I'm feeling a bit out of touch, though, because my comic book "glory years" stretch from about the early 1960s to maybe the early 1980s.  I'm a product of a generation when comics had hippies in them and characters wearing bell-bottom pants.  I must salute AnubisVonMojo for mentioning Luke Cage, because those early issues were pure 1970s (and I've heard rumors that a Luke Cage movie may be forthcoming).

I can't get into modern comics.  The artwork and printing are too "clean."  Give me the old artwork any day . . . complete with printing technology that sometimes didn't quite get the ink inside the lines of the pencil drawings!  Now THOSE were comics!  Also, life was simpler and heroes were more sanitized then . . . none of this "Daredevil with razor stubble" stuff in those days.

I'd also like to second a Luke Cage movie.  He's a good character. 

I'd like to see a Scourge movie.  I don't know how it'd work.  It probably wouldn't.  But hell, it'd be cool.

Scourge would be great! And for the Spidey fans maybe a TV series based on the Tangled Web series from a few years back.

I rather enjoyed the Tangled Web stories as they gave a more interesting look at some of his adversaries.

For a silly off the wall choice how about having Solomon Grundy host Masterpiece Theater on PBS? :teddyr:

I think DC'c Suicide Squad would be a good choice for a show with both action and drama.

I think Moon Knight was being made into a ty series.  However, since Blade tanked I think Marvel may be thinking twice about non-cartoon tv shows.  Which is a shame, because I love the new Moon Knight comics-and they have lead me to the older issues.  It's a realy good series.

She-Hulk could harken back to her 80's David Byrne era.  She was always breaking the fourth wall in comics and she could do so in a tv series.  Maybe Crush or Syrein from the New American Gladitors would be up for the title role if they ever decide to leave the show.

I'd like to see the old marvel monsters like Fin Fang Foom, Groot, Goom, Gorgilla get movies-but I would like them to be the focus rather than some monster the main villain summons to fight the hero.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I'd like to see a Darkhawk movie.

over on the DC side-the only hero I really want to see get made is Green Lantern.

but above and beyond all, I wanna see someone with the grapes to tackle Groo the Wanderer as a live action film

Just a quick note - Green Lantern is currently in development.  Supposedly, anyway.  It'll be very difficult to adapt into a movie, I think.  There's so much background required.

The last Green lantern news I heard was they were making it a humorous version starring Jack Black.  I hope it was just a hoax, sort of like back in the 1970s when rumors went around that "Fonzie" had died . . .

There is one I would like to see a film version of, "Deathlock, the Demolisher".

Dennis:  I've read articles about plans for a Deathlok movie . . . not sure how accurate they are.  And even if they are true, we are probably 3 or 4 years away at best.

So all anyone wants to see are comic book super hero movies? No one wants to see great comics like IRONWOOD, COCAINE COMIX, XXXENOPHILE (this would make a great anthology series), SAPPHIRE, or CHERRY POPTART :wink: get made into a movie.  Fine.  How about. .

Dito on "Usagi Yojimbo", I also agree (obviously) on a animated movie. Wouldn't have to follow the books letter by letter, though.

Personally, I think "Preacher" would make a great movie, with lots of potential for sequels.

In contrast, although I like the books, I think "Strangers in paradise" wouldn't work as a movie....

Phil Foglio, the comic book artist on XXXenophile, has been around for quite a while.  My exposure to his strips came from Dragon magazine, where they were far from adult material, which is how I ended up reading the series.  It's probably one of the best quality adult comics I've ever come across.  That it's an anthology series, with many of it's stories have Twilight Zone-ish twists, just makes it all the more astounding.

On a related note there used to be a movie review site called Galaxy of Terror (gone now) that used to have screen caps of a movie they simply referred to as "Dino Porn" that sounded like a total rip-off of the story pictured.  Could be the Europeans already adapted some of the stories from XXXenophile.  I know their was supposed to be an adaptation of the Butterscotch comic series, for French TV (?), but from what little I've heard about it it wasn't that great.

Can't remember the comic you'd like to mention here?  Wouldn't it be great if there were a site with comic cover scans you could browse?
