Title: Favorite TV moment: DARK SHADOWS introduces BARNABAS COLLINS

Do you have a FAVORITE TV MOMENT?  2 minutes:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mDkh2BH424&feature=related
My brother and sisters were all very young, but had been urged by a friend at school to get home by 4 o'clock for that day's episode of "DARK SHADOWS" ...kid musta read something in the paper or caught the lead up the day before, but we caught the episode where WILLIE LOOMIS releases BARNABAS, chained in his coffin for nearly 200 years, the first time it aired... (1967~and btw, Willie Loomis was bitten on the wrist.) :teddyr:  Now remember, the show had been on for several months before BARNABAS (and a true supernatural bent) was written into the script.  In the 1980s, we watched wee-hour reruns and were able to finally realize the cheesieness and wonderful shoddiness of this TV show.

What's your FAVORITE TV MOMENT?

I'm a huge Dark Shadows fan as well.  I didn't see it when it first came out (I was about 3 years old), but I watched the reruns on Sci-Fi when they were showing it a few years back.  Now I've got DVD sets 5-13, which covers the 1795 storyline through the present day stuff, 1897, and parallel time.  Despite the obvious cheese, the show has great characters and really fun story lines.  And the Gothic atmosphere is just awesome.  We watch an episode every night after dinner.  Right now we're on the early part of 1897, Quentin and Evan Hanley have just conducted a dark ceremony and brought Angelique to life.  Barnabas just gave Rachel Drummond the music box that was originally Josette's, and of course Angelique got out her little voodoo doll and proceeded to choke Rachel.  The best thing about the show is that it's so engrossing, you can put in a DVD and you're just carried away to the world of the show.

For favorite TV moments, there was an episode of Melrose Place I've always liked.  There were these two sisters, Jane and Sydney.  Jane was nice and Sydney was a total conniving b***h.  Somehow she screwed Jane out of her fashion design business.  In one episode, Jane concocts this plan to fool Syd into signing control of the business back to her.  It was great because the queen b***h got royally screwed, soooooo satisfying   :teddyr:

Babylon 5 - they thought the show was going to be canceled after season 3, so they did this series wrapup that took place thousands of years in the future, showing flashbacks of all the important events in the life of Sheridan and DeLenn.  Really nicely done, and you didn't know that it was taking place in the far future until the very end.

Thanks for posting those! I also have great memories of watching Dark Shadows as a very young kid - it was also the first thing I ever saw on a color television.

Here's famous moment I remember seeing first hand:

Star Trek Voyager
When Seven of Nine and Chakotay finally get together.  they did it over a few episodes and I love the one where she writes him into the holodeck program so she can flesh out how to approach him without acting like a borg.  And then they kiss.....

In one episode she tries to dump him because her implants were going wonky and she didn't want him to love her and then be devastated when she died.  But he didn't let her get away with it and she finally relented.  *sigh*

Doc Martin
The doc and Louisa have been in "will they/won't they" mode for ages and at a music recital, the doc compliments Louisa on her perfume and then totally ruins it by adding more info than she wants to know.  They get in the car and he realises that she's p**sed off so he recommends some hormones to settle her moods.

She goes nuts and starts crying and tells him she can't do it any more and that she doesn't want to see him.  He's shocked and ends up even more abrupt and bad tempered.  His aunt tells him his better off, but is shocked when she sees that he's been crying.

Meanwhile, Louisa's friend is staying with her and she hurt her back and is bedridden, but when Louisa gets home, she's walking around tyring to make a cup of tea.  She gets a twinge and drops the glass milk bottle she's holding and slips on the milk and lands right on top of the broken glass and passes out.  Louisa calls the doc and with Louisa's help, he saves the girls' life.

The ambulance comes to take her to hospital and the doc is washing his hands preparing to leave.  Louisa is crying and  freaked out and as the doc leaves, she says, "Martin you are a remakable man."  And he says, "no I'm not."  Just as he's about to close the door, he says, "marry me."  She's stunned and says, "what?"  And he says, "Marry me Louisa, I can't bear it without you."  She accepts and jumps into his arms.

I was blubbing like a baby.  Of course I'm not sure of the exact words they used, but they're close enough.

 Well, Killer Bees, in all honesty, I was not a fan of that episode (mainly because I did not care for Chakotay.)  But I did love "Star Trek: Voyager" and all of the characters.  Though I'm liable to get knocked, it's my favorite Star Trek... this is for you, Killer:

And the infamous

WHO SHOT J.R.?

SPOILER: If you don't know, don't watch the clip!

For the record - I didn't give a tinker's damn who shot J.R. back then, but it was something of an American Cultural Event.

Me neither, though who was alive then who the next season didn't know that it was that one who did it?
I couldn't find my favorite episode of "OUTER LIMITS", but I did like it when the alien creatures would appear, sometimes quite startling looking things... here's a great example...

The Outer Limits was my holy grail of TV series when I was growing up. Famous Monsters would sometimes have photos of those creepy critters but none of the local stations ever, ever aired it. I don't think I saw an episode until they came out on DVD a few years ago.

For some reason, the youth leader at our little Baptist church had several episodes of Thriller! on 16mm film, so at the church Halloween party we'd get to watch Pigeons From Hell or The Hungry Glass!

On STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION, during the first of the two-part episode THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS, when the Borg cube opens the commlink and there is Captain Picard saying "I am Locutus of Borg!"

A friend of mine hates that episode and loathes Seven of Nine. She feels that Seven stole Chuckles away from who he should have ended up with: Janeway. Me, I didn't care either way.

My favorite Dark Shadows moment, and possibly my favorite TV moment, is when Barnabas bricks Reverend Trask up behind the wall of the basement of the old house as Trask is chained up, alive, and helplessly watching.  Trask really had it coming, and even as a little kid I remember savoring every moment of it.  I wish there was a clip on youtube to post, but I couldn't find one.

Oh yes, that was a great TV moment... think of some other show and post an alternate favorite TV moment.

Here's a fun nearly seven minute encapsulation of my favorite made-for-TV movie, THE NIGHT STALKER (1972)

MUSICAL MEMORIES!

I've always had a soft spot for this Darlin Family (The Dillards) tune from The Andy Griffith Show.

"No, paw. That one makes you cry!"

And then there's Ernest T. Bass's classic version of Ol' Aunt Mariah:

Too bad they didn't let him sing Eatin' Goober Peas, too.
