Today was my twin daughters' birthday, so we took them to the movies this afternoon.  We had all thoroughly enjoyed THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE, so we decided to take in the sequel.

I read all the Narnia books aloud to my girls a couple of years ago, but I will admit that the details of the last four books had kind of run together in my head.  The movie remained faithful to the basic plot of the book, as I remembered it, but I think it did elaborate a bit more on the battle sequences.  That being said, it is a highly watchable story, with engaging characters, gorgeous cinematography, and seamless CGI.  If you like fantasy in general, and Christian-themed fantasy in particular, Disney has done an excellent job of bringing C.C. Lewis' dreamworld to life.

The movie definitely pushed the envelope of the PG rating in its battle sequences, however.  I don't recommend it for children under 10 unless they are pretty hardened to violent battle scenes.  It is almost as violent as the battle scenes in LORD OF THE RINGS, which garnered that series a PG-13.  Other than that, though, it is a pretty magnificent piece of work.  We walked out thoroughly entertained - even my 80-year-old mother-in-law said that it was "Not too obnoxious" - high praise indeed coming from her.

My brother and I plan on seeing this, he's 19 and I'm 16 so a PG rating means NOTHING, especially scince we've read all the books.

We saw it last Sunday at the Drive-In.  Pretty good, and the children (2 and 5) enjoyed it.  The battle scenes were "the scary parts" and they were the 2 year old's favorite parts.  Go figure.

I just saw this, great, the first one kinda took a while to get into, but this one jumped right in, I say better than the first.  :thumbup: :thumbup:

I agree. Watch how King Miraz holds his sword in his duel with Peter. That man knows something about swordfighting. And did anybody else like the baby centaur?

I preferred the mouse, he was HI-larious.

If you enjoyed the first one this is well worth seeing.  The action scenes are great!  It reminded me a little of LotR... the battle scenes weren't as long, but very similar.  :thumbup:

I've still gotta catch this before it leaves cinemas. I hoestly just wasn't that impressed at the first one, but this looked more fun.    :lookingup:

To be sure, it's more a poor man's Harry Potter than a poor man's LOTR, but that still affords it enough (with Susan in a Corset  :wink:) to be entertaining despite being too violent for anyone under 10 and too cheesy for anyone over 17.

It's a B- if I'm in a good mood.

Or it was till the ending took it from sentimental to unforgivably sappy.

I almost never condemn a film if I don't like its ending, but this ending exposed the filmmakers as pandering rather than merely mediocre.

Yeah, they play epic battle music the whole time, then a sad pop song at the end, wonderful.  (blegh)
