Title: Report accuses Bush of misrepresenting Iraq intel

Report accuses Bush of misrepresenting Iraq intel
WASHINGTON - A new Senate report gives a fresh shot of adrenaline to the election-year debate over the Iraq war. President Bush and his top officials deliberately misrepresented secret intelligence to make the case to invade Iraq, according to the Senate Intelligence Committee.

The panel put a new spin on old charges, comparing claims made in five speeches by top Bush administration officials with intelligence reports. The committee says officials wrongly linked Saddam Hussein to the Sept. 11 attacks and al-Qaida; claimed Iraq would give terrorist groups chemical, biological or nuclear weapons, and said Iraq was developing drone aircraft to spread chemical or biological agents over the United States.

None was borne out by intelligence...

Yeah, suspension of disbelief is an ironic thing these days. I can totally believe that giant insects and dinosaurs are created, released, or empowered by thermonuclear radiation. I believe that El Santo can go into a night club wearing a mask, and not get a second glance from anyone. Hell, I can even make myself believe that Disney is only concerned with the entertainment and well being of children.

But I can't believe anyone can still defend the Bush administration's tactics.

That libelous "report" (smear campaign) you're pushing comes
mainly from Rockefeller and his cronies, by the way. What a hypocrite!

So, you're knocking me anonymously six times because I posted a news item?  I have to point out that posting a news item is not "pushing."

Six times, me? That'd be a good trick.

Given the anti-war agenda that elected and drives this Congress . . . to see this country defeated and our President discredited AT ALL COSTS . . . did anyone expect them to come out with a report that said "Doh!!! We were wrong!"

From the very beginning of the Iraq war, the leftists in America have shown that they would rather see America defeated by its enemies than see this President get credit for the victory.

I think that final statement illustrates why there is so much animosity in politics that discussion becomes impractical.
Victory?  As has been pointed out, perhaps history will prove your statement.  Perhaps you're again right, maybe there are "leftist" American citizens who'd like to see America defeated... you mean in the "War on Terror" I suppose?  In any case, I still expect that to be a small number.  Though you might suspect I lean left in my own political views (I'm not telling) and that though I'm passionate (particularly when drunk) and challenging, I am open minded.  I just think that statement is absurdly dogmatic.     I give you karma for it.
 Here's to America!

Hey!  I supported our President after September 11, 2001 though I hadn't voted for him.  I felt we needed to go into Afghanistan, and our troops did a magnificient job there.  Iraq is another matter, and I suspect that it is rooted in a long-term agenda of the rightists, that now, is like a hand of cards played out in reality, including the Ace of Spades (energy).   BUSH has set the political, military, and cultural tone for 21st century American involvement in an increasingly small world, and I'm not impressed with his resume.

Please forgive me if I sound like a Politico, I'm not.  It's simply the recent events on this board that are compelling.

AllHallows, you know that I respect you greatly.  However, some of the comments by Democratic politicians in this country are immediately picked up and played on Al-Jazeera as propaganda for our enemies.  Too many on the left have crossed the line from honest criticism of  the President's foreign policy to flat-out propagandizing for our enemies.

Was the case for WMD in Iraq somewhat overstated? Probably.  Does that mean we had no just cause to go to war? Absolutely not.  Saddam had violated every provision of the armistice he signed in 1991, many of them repeatedly.  He had fired on U.S. and British aircraft and hired assassins to kill a former U.S. President.  All those were perfectly legal casus belli.  I think it is unfortunate we picked the WMD issue to be the centerpiece of our case for war . . . but, the whole world thought he had them and Saddam himself acted like he had them.  It was an honest mistake.  If Bush and Cheney knew they were making it up, don't you think they would have been smart enough to plant a cache of WMD for our boys to find?

Amen brother ...

What I find so funny is that so many on the left call Bush an idiot ... but yet he's clever enough to convince congress to authorize war. I could find quote after quote of Democrat's voicing the need to go to war with Iraq ... somehow that information is forgotten.
SOME on the left in this country have gone off the edge and are venturing deep into the dark world of socialism.
