Title: For all you old stoners H.R. Pufnstuf coming to the big screen
Post by: trekgeezer on June 17, 2008, 07:38:23 AM
One of the most bizarre kid's shows ever made.  I wonder how they'll update this.

I can just imagine all the uptight parents "Oh, we can't let little Jacob and Madison see that, it endorses drug use!  It hasn't been sanitized for our protection!"  Hell, back in the '60s we watched that stuff and thought it was cool.

Oh well, they'll just make some Will Ferrell Jackass comedy out of it, that has absolutely nothing to do with the original.  Just like they always do.

The last time i saw H.R. Pufnstuf was on the George Lopez Show--and George was hoofing all over the back yard with him.

That's a genuine possibility. I was kind of picturing another Jim Carrey or Mike Myers costume comedy.

Not a stoner, and wasn't alive to watch it when it was first on.  I did seem some epsidoes when it was on late night TV land.

Part of the shows premise is that nearly every inanimate object on the island is alive and can talk....

first thought through my head was..Man, going to the bathroom in that place must be awfully disturbing!

Honestly, the second idea is probably right, with those drug references out the wazoo.

I read up on the show though and I can't imagine parents today really caring enough to read into the "subtext" unless one of the creators actually throws it out there like Philip Pullman did :teddyr:. If that happens then there's more of a chance of parents letting their kids see the Will Ferrel version than a faithful adaptation

Oh man H.R. Pufnstuf ... I watched this show when it was first on, what next a remake of "The Banana Splits"

Or maybe a remake of Lancelot Link Secret Chimp

However I demand a new updated, slutty Witchiepoo.

I don't know, I think she's a tad over dressed.

How about this ... anything more and I couldn't post it here.

Now she can but a spell on me.
