Title: WANTED: BABYSITTER (1975) Post by: The Burgomaster on June 21, 2008, 03:58:01 PM This isn't really a good movie, but there are a couple of reasons I mention it here instead of in the "bad" forum:
1. It's actually an okay movie; 2. The title WANTED: BABYSITTER, the year (1975), and the fact that Robert Vaughn is in it caused me to think it would be a bad, made-for-TV melodrama. I was surprised to discover it is a dubbed European movie produced by the legendary Carlo Ponti! First of all, the version I have is included in Mill Creek's BOX OFFICE GOLD 50 MOVIE PACK. This version is in black & white, even though the movie was filmed in color! And, surprisingly, it LOOKS like it should be a black and white movie. It resembles a lot of early to mid-1960s black & white European films. But anyway . . . you can see a (color) clip here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYDqUA9-5UM The (sometimes confusing) plot involves the son of a wealthy man and the boy's babysitter becoming victims in a kidnaping plot. There are a few memorable images (like a woman forcing the kid to drink hot chocolate with sleeping pills in it, and the corridors of a house being flooded by an overflowing bathtub), but the pacing is often too slow and some of the dialogue appears to have been butchered in the dubbing. In addition to Robert Vaughn (who plays an annoying actor . . . wait a second . . . he IS an annoying actor), Vic Morrow is the other "name" American actor. The rest of the cast (led by Maria Schneider of LAST TANGO IN PARIS fame) is mostly European character actors. Overall, an "okay" movie . . . maybe we need an "okay" forum to go along with the "good" forum and "bad" forum . . . |
