Title: BADMOVIE.ORG 10 YEARS OLD TODAY! Happy Birthday
Post by: CheezeFlixz on June 22, 2008, 10:23:45 AM
What better place than the Bad Movie thread to wish BADMOVIE.ORG a Happy Birthday!

So Happy 10th Birthday BADMOVIE.ORG and congrads Andrew on keeping it going so long, in 10 years many millions of websites have come and gone but you're still here, chugging away, working hard so us ungrateful bastards can argue and pleasantly discuss movies.

We do, at least I do appreciate your efforts, so thank you and Happy 10th Birthday and many more.

Big congrats to the man in charge for not only keeping on when so many other sites have died off, but for keeping it at a level of greatness that most of us other webmasters (whom Andrew has also gone to great lengths to help promote) aspire to. And lest we forget the groovy forum that goes with it!

Congratulations from a long-time reader, contributor and all around fan. Andrew has not only maintained the site but upgraded it with the times. If we could trace back each forum upgrade many of us would marvel at how far our technologies have come. Andrew, you are an amazing web host as well as an amazing movie reviewer. Thank you so much for your passion for sub-par cinema. Without you we might all be wandering the streets at night, or worse, over at AICN or slashdot with no one to understand our pain.

Congrats on a decade of bad movies, gratuitous breast shots and random acts of violence against everyday items! This was one of the very first bad movie sites I ever found and the one from which I drew the most inspiration. I'll never forget the Sunday I found the site and spent the whole going through the reviews. What a blast!

Thanks to everyone.  Hearing that other fans of these kinds of films enjoyed the site has kept me going at it.  When I would lose the motivation, something would happen to perk me up and I'd return to the fray.

I look back, and still cannot believe I have been doing this for 10 years.  It has been very fun, and hopefully I will be able to do this for another 10, 20, or 30 years.  If I can just get Jenna, Andy, or Garrett interested in writing, it could go on quite a bit longer than that.

I did try to write a short "10 year anniversary" article, but the result came out very melancholy, which was not my intent.  Shelved it for now, but if time permits in the near future, I will take another hack at it.  The main reason it seemed sad was reflecting back on all the people and websites who have come and gone over the years.  Many of those people I came to consider as friends and associates, and the online b-movie community is less active and fractured now.

We had an problem at the unit yesterday that kept me overnight, but once a Marine arrived to relieve me of my duties (at 0700 today) I zipped home, showered, and then Katie and I loaded the children into the minivan.  We spent the day at the new house celebrating Garrett's first birthday with friends and family.  My youngest son and the website share birthdays: 22 June.

Any day you would like to go for a run or hit the obstacle course, my friend.  We ran a practice physical fitness test this month.  Once I finished, I turned around and waited for the rest of the Marines to arrive.  There are a pair of young sergeants who are gunning for me, and I do think they will be able to catch me after some more road time, but for now I'm it.  The other gunny who was keeping up with me sprained his ankle badly about a month ago.

10 YEARS?! Holy jeez!! I was only 9 years old when this thing started up! 1998.....man! Do I feel old and decrepit!

But enought feeling sorry for myself. Congrats to Andrew for keeping this heap well oiled and running for the past decade! I forget how or why I originaly got into b-movies, but when I found this site a little over a year ago, my b-movie fandom only grew and grew and branched out into several sub-genres of b-movies. So thanks Andrew! Happy birthday, website!

Well, I missed the start of the thread here, as I was out making plastic armor for this year's Taste of Shakespeare shows -- We're doing "Chimes at Midnight" --
10 years shoot by like a rocket -- I have to thank the site for re-upping me with Jeff Mandel, director of Robochic/Cyberchic, who I'd lost track of, as well as some distracting arguments and great conversations.  Without this site, I doubt I would have been motivated to track down things like "Evil Dead 3" and other more obscure titles.  How much less rich my life would have been had that not occurred!!
Yes, we all appreciate Andrew here -- Even if we don't always visit every day, it's good to know badmovies.org is there when you need it --

Thanks to everyone.  Hopefully the site has contributed something to society and culture, not everything can be of measurable merit, but surely something has been.

The explosion of DVD has resulted in a bunch of lost classics coming back to light, but I am not certain that we will reach that point of "really great to be a movie lover" until another distribution system comes along.  Some sort of online version, which removes the material (the physical DVD) factor and ensures that movies will not go out of print is what I want - and no stupid DRM.  I am perfectly willing to buy my movies, but do not screw with my rights as the consumer because the studios are crazy paranoid.

Sorry I'm late in responding.
Haven't had much computer access lately because of the flood.

I remember the first time I came here to this site in 2000.
Hard to believe it's been 8 years for me and 10 years for Badmovies.org.
The site has definitely evolved over the years.  I remember posting like crazy on the old style Phorum.

It's been a fun ride.
Here's to ten more years!

I think I've repeatedly stated that the people who post on this board form the greatest human database for forgotten cinema. Film historians will always focus on and study the high points of each decade. We, however, have at least one person who can pontificate (intelligently) on almost every movie ever released, sublime or sub-par. Not only pontificate, but recognize directors, actors, what have you, and discuss their work over a wider range of their career and the thrust of the time.

History is not only a discussion of our finest moments. It includes some grimy bits, where it really wasn't all that worth talking about, but it's there anyway. And it's not reduced to "academic" discussion, because they were simply good times.

Right. I'm going to go watch I Come in Peace.

also...some of my favorite characters from the past

3.  guy who left because he wanted the board to be more focused on screw ups in movies, like guys in the middle eages wearing wristwatches and calling each other by their real names and this is what REALLY constituted a "bad movie"

Well, I wouldn't say "Lair of the White Worm" is the greatest movies ever, but I do think it is one of the most underrated movies ever.

And yes, a delayed happy birthday from me, too.

How much is that in dog years?
