Title: Homeland Security wants to make sure you have shockingly good flight!
Post by: trekgeezer on July 09, 2008, 08:54:09 AM
When the hell are we gonna stop this crap.  When we  put through stuff like this, it just makes me think the terrorists have already won.

Make sure you check out the video (complete with the obligatory 9/11 footage).

I wouldn't be surprised if an experienced terrorist could disable the EMD.  So we're basically causing more of a panic.

I like the update best:

"The bracelets remain inactive until a hijacking situation has been identified..." Gee Whizz, that's so clever! Good they said so, and hopefully they make sure everyone involved knows this - otherwise it will be an unpleasant flight....

But I like the laser pointer thing even better. Imagine a stewardess in a jedi-like laser sword fight with a terrorist, who himself desperately tries to get his hand ten inch out of the laser point. And all the while passengers who were unfortunate enough to come too close wiggling on the floor. Fantastic!

What a stupid idea.  It's a waste of money to even investigate this because it's obvious to anyone who's not a complete imbecile that the public would never consent to it.

How they gonna select the correct bracelet from the hundreds on board...?  "...step on a crack, break yer mother's back...!"

"Lamperd Less Lethal" - really makes me feel comfortable about putting one of those on.

Not only wouldn't the public wear the things, the airlines would not want that much legal liability. Can you imagine what that would do to their insurance rates? Yes, they might gain a little safety against hijacking (maybe), but all of the passengers are wearing devices that can stun them with a high-voltage jolt. Anyone can see the potential for accidents, possibly a death or two, and litigation. Whether it drives the customers away or drives up the costs, a move like that would be a heck of a blow to the airline industry.

Up here, there's been some debate about taser use by police, due to a couple of cases where someone has died after being stunned. Naturally, there have been some extreme viewpoints, but there is general consensus that tasers and similar weapons can't be treated lightly. They're not a safe method of incapacitating someone, just less dangerous than a gun. That, to me, is reason enough for cops to have that option, but I sure as hell wouldn't want airline stewardesses strapping them to the travelling public.

I love that guy Nathaniel who states: "My rebuttal in two words: BULL$HIT!"  :teddyr: I always thought that bull$hit was one word.....oh well.

Seriously, they would never get me to wear one of those things ~ I am uncomfortable enough on a plane as it is. They could rather put me in a straitjacket and lash me to a trolley instead of putting one of those things on my wrist.

You could fit a lot more passengers on a plane that way, and reduce fuel costs. Better hope the airlines don't get wind of that idea.

That's what my parents make me wear before they go to bed.
