Title: Skidoo was on last night at 2 am
Post by: lester1/2jr on July 12, 2008, 03:38:56 PM
This is an infamous otto preminger flop where he attempted screwball comedy as a late career...bad idea.  It has something to do with Jackie gleason and LSD

edit: crap wrong date

Checking the TCM Underground site, it looks like it did play last night.  And I missed it!  Hopefully this means the Preminger estate may be willing to release it to DVD soon.  SKIDOO has been one of those "holy grail" films for me.

That was the second time TCM ran Skidoo this year...Groucho Marx wants Jackie Gleason to kill Mickey Rooney.

I mostly enjoyed this one -- It's one of the reasons I still have a good VHS in working order:  It's readily available on tape, along with any number of other odd/obscure films that have no rumour of going to DVD --

SKIDOO was apparently not released on VHS in North America, and of course is not available on DVD (though thorough hunting always reveals unexpected finds - like SONG OF THE SOUTH DVDs having been sold at EuroDisney...)

My friend watched SKIDOO the night it was on and told me that he almost called me in the wee hours to urge me to check it out... (good thing he didn't, I was in bed by then.)  Definitely a film I am interested in sitting through.

It's available for rental on VHS from The Video Station in Boulder, Colorado.  I didn't take a good look at the box, but I know it can't be a PAL/British format because it played in my player with no modifications.
