Title: House of the Dead
Post by: Andrew on July 19, 2008, 01:55:58 PM
Why was this titled "House of the Dead?"  Well, "Zombie Island Rave Massacre" does not have the same ring to it, nor a guaranteed fanboy audience.  Welcome, Mr. Boll; I have been expecting you.

You know, you could actually kick Uwe Boll's ass.  :bouncegiggle:

Your IMDB link goes to "Slither."

Andrew,  I found a typo:

"Back at the beach, Captain Kirk and Salish are hard at work offloading their illegal cargo so they can bury it in the forest. Casper is nowhere to be found, because she had her boat drop her off on the other side of the island. In other words, Kirk is serenely hiding evidence while the harbor patrol creeps through the woods to sneak up on him. Once you see how poorly the firearms are hidden in chests and coolers, you will be just as made as I am. Anyone with an IQ over 65 would immediately realize that the containers had fake bottoms, and that the frozen fish were just a red herring."  I believe that should be, "mad as I am, not made" as I am.

I don't know about the rest of the Badmovies.org crew; I loved this movie.  Yes it was cheap and very ridiculous, but it is something that I do not have to think about, has good looking women kicking butt and shooting guns, and the evil guy was cool looking.  I will have to say that "House of the Dead II, made this movie (in my opinion) look like an Oscar winner.

I think that we should take a collection and buy Andrew a new hat.

Just my 2.5 cents.

Later,

John

Gents, thanks for pointing those out.  There were actually a number of errors there, because the edits I applied prior to posting the review did not take.  I was in a rush, and probably did something wrong.

I actually paid to see this in the theater. I even coerced the wife into joining me, a fact that she has never let me forget. I learned my lesson with Boll on this film and have never bothered to see any of his subsequent films in the theater.

I agree with Picket. This movie was FUN. It was incredibly stupid, but it had a lot of unnecessary nudity (we like that), action, and the best line in the history of cinema:
"Rudy: You did all this to become immortal. Why?
Castillo: To live forever!"
Uwe Boll is today's Ed Wood.

I saw this thing on video. It re enforced my view that no movie should be made out of a video game until Interplay ok "Redneck Rampage. Suckin grits on route 66". Exhibit A- "Doom". Exhibit B- "Wing Commander." This crap only escapes because it has the same resemblance to the original subject matter as "Santa Clause Conquers the Martians" did to Silent Night Deadly Night.

I saw this in the theater with my brother.  When I went to see it in the theater, I expected a lot more.  But I came to appreciate the good looking girls kicking butt and shooting guns.  I should have drug my wife to see this, I think that we were arguing at that time.  I could have used this as leaverage against her so something.   :bouncegiggle:

Look out, Andrew!  You're gonna get boxed!  Don't you know, Boll is a genius, and his films really depict the struggle between man and beast and blah blah blah...

Anyway, nice review.  I bothered not to watch the film, because upon seeing the trailer in front of Freddy vs. Jason, I thought that it had about as much in common with the game as When Harry Met Sally had in common with House by the Cemetery.

I have seen this movie. I also saw the the video game. I only know that I saw the video game because of the "point gun down and shoot to reload" reminder. Otherwise I would never have made the connection.

And the poster that pointed out the typo...

...it should be "and buy Andrew a new hat"

I don't see why not. If you don't have anything better to use as a disinfectant, then use Scotch. It has alcohol in it. Just don't use the good Scotch. Pouring Scotch over a wound, ruins the taste of the Scotch for some reason.

Oh man this is one of dumbest zombie movies I ever did see. What did they given these  zombies to move that way a giant bowl of Mexican Jumping Beans? Part 2 of this movie stinks too thats why I think Super Mario Brothers was way better film than both films and that not saying much. Love the two video games but really hate the two films.

I saw this piece of crap for free in theaters and just wanted to beat my head against the wall by about the 15 minute mark.

The theater should have paid ME instead to sit through this.

Oh boy did this movie make me really mad. If it had been a zombie movie I could have enjoyed it more than I did but no, it's a "game movie." The only connection to the game was a bunch of topless girls dancing under a "Sega" banner.

Really? Is that it, is that your grand investment? When a director thinks that nudity is a redeeming value in an otherwise crap film, that makes my blood boil :hatred:. None of the game movies Boll has made touch on the games at all, like he can do them better. Alone in the Dark had monsters and I still couldn't sit through it.

This was a great review Andrew...something about this one just made it stand out....perhaps it was the pain you were feeling as you wrote it.

I once played this game at the arcade I believe.  This is a bad excuse of a video game to movie adaption or just a movie in general.    Why don't video game movies ever work out?!  Silent Hill was ok, but still.  I hope the movie adaption of BioShock turns out good because that is a great game that can be made into a great movie.  They have the writer for Sweeney Todd and the director for Pirates of Carribean working on it, maybe it will be good?

As for this film, it is best to forget it exists and focus on more interesting movies that involve zombies, like Dead Alive or Night of the Living Dead.  Let's move on.

Yeah! I had forgotten about this piece of crap! That Liberty character was f-in' ridiculous! And do you remember how they interspersed actual scenes from the game with the movie during the last few action scenes? Ridiculous, ridiculous movie!!

Cthulu made Ed Wood cry.

I'd say there's a special place in hell for Uwe Boll, but Satan threatened to sue me for libel.

this movie is so plain.
They even put game footage in between scenes.
Unless you like Uwe Boll, there no reason to this movie.
He just didn't even try.

CalrissianFoxxSteele - If you like Uwe Boll, then you ARE Uwe Boll.

Hands down one of the best reviews, Andrew. I wish I knew about this site sooner.

I'd watch a movie called Zombie Island Rave Massacre.  ... Actually I'd probably buy it, just so I can tell me friends I have a copy of  Zombie Island Rave Massacre in my best dramatic voice.
