A Fender Squier five-string, like that one, 'cept mine's black.  For $239.00, it's a whole lot better than the beat-up, twenty year old piece of crap I had.  Strings don't rattle, pickups don't hum, adjusters don't loosen themselves.  I played it for a while and I'm loving it.  I'm not sure what to do with the low B-string, since none of my sheet music has anything lower than open E, but it sounds awesome just to pluck it.

The thing's heavy, though.  I'd say it weighs a couple of pounds more than my old one.

I used to play bass years ago but phased out of it after about 3-4 years.

That dude's one of the best bass players in the world.  His skill level is off the charts.

Nice bass - you might want to think about getting it professionally set up.  They do stuff like adjust the straightness of the neck, adjust the string height, pickup height, and set the intonation.  And of course tune it.  It can make a world of difference as far as playability.

And get a drum machine!  Those things are AWESOME practice tools.  They let you practice staying in time, they're great for jammin, and just a load of fun.

Congrats! I used to play a little (on the extremely amateur level). I found a Masada bass in a pawn shop, saw it was in good shape, with a straight neck and everything, and decided to try it. I learned a few patterns, played along with a few songs I had on lp (yes, it was that long ago), and enjoyed it quite a bit. I kind of drifted away from it, concentrating more on my six-string, and my sister has my bass right now, though I'm pretty sure it is just collecting dust (much as it was doing for me).

No that's NEW Bass ... not a old one. I had images of newer bass, but most folks wouldn't know they were bass. Fingerlings look like minnows.


Nice 5 string, years and years ago I had a Rickenbacker bass.

I was playing a Conklin brand 7 string bass for the last few years but I've decided to go back to a 4 string bass for a while to get back to my roots and influences like Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, Steve Harris, Flea and Tony Levin.

My playing was rooted in heavy bass chord type structures and tons of two handed tapping and I've been wanting to get back to more traditional type bass playing for a while as I've missed it.

Here's an exact picture (same color and everything) of my Conklin 7 string bass:

If you're wondering what the string order is from low to high it's as follows:  B, E, A, D, G, C, F.

The 4 string that I'm playing at the moment is a Geddy Lee Fender Jazz model exactly like this:

In the past (I've been playing bass for about 20 years now), I've owned at some point a 4 string Ibanez active pickups bass, a 6 string Ibanez model and a 6 string Yamaha John Myung model.

Oh yeah, and the B string  is fantastic if you're playing a song that's in some key of D or C as you can bottom out, not to mention bottoming out on the open low B!  It's also cool being able to play a low E on the 5th fret of the B string as it opens up some more possibilities on bass riffs in E farther up the neck.
