Title: WTFFILM asks - What if THE BEAST OF YUCCA FLATS was silent? [video]
Post by: wtffilm on September 15, 2008, 03:54:47 PM
Wtf-film seeks to answer that very question in its newly produced silent version of the film - complete with color tinting, intertitles, and a stock music score.  It is currently viewable for free online either at http://www.wtf-film.com or on Google Video proper ( http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1529385723859949019&hl=en )

Also up are two new reviews:

That's all for right now - I'm back from vacation and have a load of things to attend to.  Enjoy the updates!

The silent version of "The Beast of Yucca Flats" loses something.  I think that the equally silly delivery of the lines adds to the experience, and without hearing them it is just not the same.  "Flag on the moon.  How did it get there?"

I can't argue with that - what I lament most, perhaps, is not being able to hear the mother scolding her youngsters about playing around with coyotes . . .

A silent Beast of Yucca Flats wouldn't have any "progress" or "soda for pigs"

Interesting experiment - I commend you for trying it out.  I like the tinting and the title screens, though I confess I don't  have the time or the paience to watch it from start to finish.

Did you transcibe the dialogue exactly as the narrator spoke irt?

Ah, but that is where you are wrong - progress (and dehumanization as a result of it) is the central theme of the film, at least so far as the film has a theme.  I included as much of Coleman Francis' narrative rambling as I could in the guise of italicized exposition and, I assure you, there is plenty of progress and no shortage of patrolmen or vacationers caught in it.

Did you transcibe the dialogue exactly as the narrator spoke irt?

The majority of it is, though I did make changes here and there, like adding the line "Run them off the road!" during the car chase and referencing the immortal "flag on the moon" line in a fabricated conversation between the KGB agents in the opening.

Thanks!
