Title: The name of the USA Ambassador's residence in Pretoria always makes me smile...

 :teddyr:

Everyone knows the eerie Robert Wise film The Haunting (1963) with Richard Johnson and Julie Harris ~ the evil, brooding palace known as Hill House both in the film and in the Shirley Jackson book. That is a really creepy film indeed.  :buggedout: :buggedout:

Well, the American ambassador's residence is quite near my house ~ a few blocks up the road in fact ~ and I noticed for the first time the other day as I had to walk to the shops that this beautiful house is called....wait for it.... Hill House! Yikes!  :buggedout: :buggedout:

Then its doors must always be sensibly closed, so how do people get in to conduct diplomatic business?

I guess the ambassador thought "Hill House" sounded more inviting than "The House that Dripped Blood."

By the way, welcome back from vacation, Trevor!

Whatever walks there, walks alone.

The residence is at 357 Victoria Street, Pretoria East, by the way: I forgot to mention that.

I once almost got arrested for loitering outside the residence: all I was doing was resting my feet outside after a 5 mile walk and was told by the guard to take a hike.  :bluesad:

You should have told him you just did; that's why you were sitting there.  :tongueout:

I'm sure that would have amused him to no end.
