Title: What is the least disturbing movie you have ever seen?
Post by: lester1/2jr on October 06, 2008, 02:50:18 PM
What movie did NOT make your skin crawl  the most?

I'd say Aquamarine.  Actually that was a little disturbing as the girls were under age.  Chuck Norris's "Breaker Breaker" didn't disturb me at all.  CB radios are just fine, no traumatic exoperiences with one I can recall anyway.

The Ewoks.  anybody else?

Not funny.

Not clever.

Not amusing.

XD yes it is!

Though I haven't seen it yet, it seems from the praise it gets Amelie is probably one of the least violent and hateful "mature" films out there

Film that disturbed me the least? Rear Window. That's right, it actually failed at the easy task of being disturbing XD . Honorable mentions include Scarecrow Slayer, which actually made me mad enough to distract me from other emotions.

Not disturbing disturbing, just utterly bizarre.  Disturbingly so.

If CAFE FLESH is the least disturbing movie you've ever seen, then you have a very disturbing movie diet indeed...

Actually, the question is quite hard.  All movies need an element of conflict, and all conflicts need to be disturbing on some level... a completely non-disturbing movie would also be completely forgettable.  BAMBI disturbed me immensely as a child, what with his mom getting shot and all.

rev powell -  well yeah.   you'll come full circle to most disturbing when you find least disturbing.  some of the christian adolescent films for Christiano films are so wholesome they are completely frightening in a very real way, more so than say Freddy's Dead.

Sorry.  Couldn't resist.

All movies need an element of conflict, and all conflicts need to be disturbing on some level... a completely non-disturbing movie would also be completely forgettable.

I recently watched 30 DAYS OF NIGHT and found the characters were totally forgettable.  Yet some might find the movie disturbing as the vampire act more like ravenous cannibals.

Speaking of cannibals I don't much care for cannibal movies.  Never have.  So there's one for disturbing subject matter.  OTOH I am not overtly fond of zombie movies, yet, one of my favorites is RETURN OF THE LIVIND DEAD 3, the unrated version.

Now THAT movie has some disturbing scenes.  The rated version, not so much.

Blair Witch Project: Reminded me of a bunch of 10-year olds trying to scare each other with scarey stories. The Muppet Movie was more disturbing.

This is a Zen question -- What is the most bland, inoffensive film you've ever seen?  Something you remember even though by the very nature of the question it should be amazingly forgettable . . . After much thought, I would have to say "The Princess Bride" --

Now, I know the whole "Diego Montoya/prepare to die!" thing and the "RUS" business & the story & Wallace Shawn, but I found the whole thing as bland as mayonnaise on white bread.  I mean, I didn't hate it/I didn't love it -- Heck, I didn't even vaguely dislike it or vaguely enjoy it.  At the end of it, I was puzzled & did feel a slight questioning irritation at the people I'd spoken with who love love love this film.  It sort of reminded me of the whole Johnathan Livingston Seagull phenomena of years gone by.  For those of you too young to remember, this book was a billion-seller & you couldn't swing a cat without hitting someone gushing over it.  And then it disappeared.  I actually read it.  One of the blandest, most inoffensive things you've ever read in your life.  It was like reading pudding.  "Princess Bride" reminds me of this.

That's a tough one.

I've already stated elsewhere I felt THE DEVIL'S REJECTS and Dee Snyder's STRANGELAND were some of the blandest, most unimaginative, wastes of celluloid I've ever sat through.

But were they totally tasteless?  I mean that is one definition of bland, yet John Waters movies are tasteless, but in an entirely different connotation.  So, bland. . .

Both the aforementioned movies took a mild approach to their subject matter, not that the movies would have been any better had they pushed the boundaries into sick-o gore-o-rama.  On the other hand younger audience members who haven't seen a lot of gore movies may not have felt this way.  We do tend to get jaded as we get older.

But it's not just mainstream gore movies that seem to have become dull characatures of their genre a lot of the so-called "gay and lesbian" cinema is the same way.  Have you ever watched oen of those "lesbian" movies?  They do get some hype but, invariably, are uninspiring bores.  Here we have an entire genre based solely on sexuality and 9 out of 10 of the movies are just crap on a shingle that the director's expect critics to say good things about, not because it's a good movie, but because it would be politically incorrect to do otherwise.   And, so far, this scheme has worked for them.  :hatred:

And then there are DISNEY movies.  These are some of the blandest white washed, least offensive, soulless cinematic experiences you're likely to endure.  Yet kids love them.  Then again the Hitler Youth thought much the same thing of the Fuhrer.

THE DEVIL'S REJECTS isn't disturbing?  Sorry, you're the one who got me to thinking about "Torture Porn" and that "sh!t on a shingle" sure takes that cake.  I did find it a bit disturbing, but in a detached kind of way.  I certainly think it's overrated (if not downright junk!)  STRANGELAND is derivative drivel, but some might find it disturbing.  Certainly we agree that they were both a "waste of celluloid."

But were they totally tasteless?  I mean that is one definition of bland, yet John Waters movies are tasteless, but in an entirely different connotation.  So, bland. . .
That's a thoughtful comment.

I don't think they're "mild."  Just dopey, which makes violence and mean-spirited cruelty implausible and unbelievable.  Total contrivances, we may dislike them for different reasons, but I suspect we could sweat through other bad movies and possibly emerge smiling.

Reminds me of GO FISHBlech.

That's the first time I've read anyone suggest HITLER was "white washed" or "least offensive."  Your corollary there fails.

I find Disney movies disturbing on a whole other level, but that's beside the point.

Bland, but memorable. Almost anything that falls into that category is memorable for boring the hell out of me, which could be considered disturbing, in that it made me uncomfortable and provoked a negative emotional response. So, something that is bland but memorable, but also just entertaining enough to be watchable and no more. Essentially, this is the most mildly entertaining movie. I'm having trouble with this question. I usually like a movie or I don't. I can't think of a movie I was indifferent about that wouldn't have been quickly forgotten if I even went as far as to watch the whole thing.

Wow.  I was typing so fast I misspelled caricature.  And no one said anything!  That's why I love this forum.  No grammar nazi's.  Speaking of Nazi's. .

Actually that wasn't the corollary I was trying to make.  Rather I was likening the brainwashing of the Hitler youth to the dreary white washed inanity of Disney features.

Nazis.  No apostrophe is needed because you intend to use the plural rather than the possessive.  "Nazi" should also capitalized as a proper name.  :teddyr:

There's such an enormous mass of movies that were so dull and boring that they left almost no impression on me that I'm really struggling to even remember them at all, let alone which one disturbed me the least. The kind of movies that would only be notable because no one ever discusses them.

I could probably go find something of this nature playing on cable channels like Lifetime or even Sci-Fi this week... things too dull to even post about.

I noticed it, but only correct CHEEZEE's grammar and spelling... to annoy him.

The Bridges of Madison County

Funny, I found that one really disturbing. Husband and kids are out of town, and Mom's screwing around with some guy she just met, who then tries to persuade her to leave with him. And the experience seems to ruin family life for her after that. That's horrible.

I'd offer up "13 Going On 30". Cute, warm, fuzzy.

Although seeing Mark Ruffalo as a love interest does make me question things, but it isn't really disturbing.
