What are the Top 100 Professional Wrestlers Of All Time?  I'll start;
1.) Rowdy Roddy Piper

Great on the microphone and severely hated in the 80s

Gotta go with my all time favorite. A big guy who shows ridiculous agility and whose gimmick has made him one of the most popular wrestlers in the last 20 years. He's slowed down in recent years (he's 46 after all, and his knees are suffering), but it's still crazy watching the guy in person.

Senior aged and crazy, Terry Funk's probably the most indestructible old man you'll ever meet. One of the wrestling vets who helped put ECW on the map, he's known for his memorable "deathmatches" in Japan, where he's been wrapped in barb wire, had beds of nails dropped on him, gone through tables, and been set on fire more than a few times. He's also gotta be the oldest man to ever do a moonsault... which, sadly, I could find neither a good YouTube clip nor still shot of.  :bluesad:

The longest-reigining world champ (10+ years), he could also legitimately take down pretty much anyone he wanted to at any time.

Speaking of Vader and my fascination with people who shouldn't be physically capable of moonsaulting (but do so anyway), I nominate a two-for-one at No.11 - The Headhunters.

Back in the early 90's Davey-Boy Smith was a local hero, with Warrington being a 10 minute drive from where I used to live. His match with Bret Hart at Summerslam '92 was the first time I ever saw wrestling and I was hooked on it until early 2002.

Stone Cold Steve Austin- A guy who was not only a decent wrestler in the ring, at least earlier on, but had an incredible character that essentially helped to relaunch the WWF/WWE when they needed it the most.  One of the most popular of all time, and still gets a crazy reaction.

No. 17 - Mr. Perfect. The greatest Intercontinental Champion in WWF history. The guy had smarm, charm, and his performances were smooth as melted butter. A perfect heel and one of the better "wrestler-turned-commentator" characters. Also, the only wrestler currently to have a rap-ballad tribute about him as written and performed by another wrestler (Randy Savage's "Perfect Friend").

I watched "Over The Edge" live on TV in the early hours, it was tragic. I'm absolutely certain Owen would've gone on to have a run with the title and accomplish many other great things. I don't think they've put him in the Hall Of Fame yet, I don't know why - Legend

19. Cactus Jack

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQnM1aIRh9E

I don't follow wrestling, but I mention him because I met him at a party once and talked to him about boxing for about 15 minutes (it was the night Buster Davis knocked out Mike Tyson, and he told me the news).  Really cool guy, extremely nice.  I think he liked talking to me because I didn't know who he was and wasn't bugging him with the usual fan questions.  It was only afterwards that I learned who he was and about his history.

Cool story Rev, Cactus seems to be a cool guy from other stories I've heard too.

Figure I'd bring up the inevitable...
20.) Hulk Hogan
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9psdw86uAUg
Although the guy had two left feet in the ring and the ego of a God, no one can deny what he did for the industry back in the 80s.  That and his amazing transformation to heal in the NWO.

I think it'll be a while before he's in there.  It seems they try to distance themselves from him due to the whole situation with how they handled it.  Seems a majority of people felt they (WWE) should've ended the PPV right then, and also felt they should've taken extra time to allow him to test the safety harnesses.  Hell, it took Bret like, ten years to accept a semi-working relationship after he left.  I highly doubt either Bret or Owen's widow especially will want anything to do with Vince in regards of Owen.  Bret, maybe, but not the widow.

Good old Cactus.  Could've had him listed under his other personas: Mankind, or Dude Love.  Generally regarded as one of, if not the 'nicest' pro wrestlers ever, which is completely the opposite of his in-ring appearances; IE: chairs, fire, cages, missing teeth, losing ears, concussions, etc.

1.) Rowdy Roddy Piper

Great on the microphone and severely hated in the 80s
Not to mention his work in the classic movie: They Live.  I loved Piper.  In 1989, as I entered Kindergarten, I had to use my Piper lunchbox everyday, cause he was awesome, and everyone else loved Hogan.  I did too, but Piper was great.  Hitting people with coconuts is the way to do it.

The guy's also a good author who's lead an interesting professional life. I read his first two books "Have A Nice Day" and "Foley Is Good". He's got a very flowing writing style that feels like you're reading a really long letter one of your friends wrote you.

As for No.23 - Playboy Buddy Rose - A unique wrassler from the AWA days, I'd only heard the man mentioned by commentators before I started watching the AWA shows on ESPN Classics... which is where I was also introduced for the first time to Scott Hall's cowboy mustache. Buddy Rose was a comical heel who would come to the ring and interrupt the announcer, "correcting" him when he would be listed as 270lbs when Buddy insisted that he was actually 217lbs. He looked kinda like Ric Flair with a beer gut and when he'd get his ass kicked he would retreat to his corner to cry in the arms of manager Sensational Sherri.

A great heel, specially in the ECW.  The whole feud with Tommy Dreamer, with Sandman.  Dating Sandman's ex-wife and then brainwashing Sandman's son to go against his father, then 'crucifying' him was brilliant.

35.) Big Bossman
(http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x310/The_Ultimate_Wrestling_Gallery/Big%20Bossman/BigBossman010.jpg)
Started out as law, order and justice of the WWF, then eventually became a hired goon for the Mr. McMahon run "Corporation" stable in the late '90s.  I particularly liked his 'feud' with Big Show, where he made fun of Show's dad dying, going so far as to crash the funeral, and steal the casket as Show is holding on the back of it.

And a question, can I just nominate the entire '99-'01 WWE Hardcore Division?  They were awesome.  The Mean Street Posse, Crash and Hardcore Holly, Viscera, Tazz, etc.

37. The smartest and most cunning, and a man with a mastery of the English language one doesn't usually expect from a pro wrestler, AWA World Champion of them all: NICK BOCKWINKEL. Even better when he was managed by Bobby "The Brain" Heenan.

No.38 - Chris Benoit - Of course there are going to be some who think that Benoit should be wiped from the records of wrestling history (WWE is still editing his matches and appearances out of DVDs and their OnDemand service), but before the nightmare outside of the ring, the guy was a consummate professional, a total work horse, a skilled athlete, a mentor to a lot of the younger wrestlers, and one of the toughest $2 steaks to walk through the ropes.

Easily one of the best put together wrestlers in and out of the ring.  His interviews as "the whole f*cking show" in ECW were some of the best the industry has ever seen.  His in ring ability is phenomenal and IMHO, one of the best the sport has seen in the past 20 years.

41.) Bill Goldberg

At times, he can seem like a blowhard.  But for a period of time, he was incredibly popular, and did a LOT of charity work helping kids, animals, and the less fortunate.  So, while he may not be the next coming of Malenko, he did the best he could for a power-house type wrestler.

I was wondering if anyone would dare mention Benoit. I have to wonder whether things would have turned out different if he hadn't used the flying headbutt ending move--maybe he wouldn't have so severely damaged his brain that he was susceptible to whatever delusions caused him to murder his family. Not trying to excuse his actions, mind you; I just wonder.

Thing is, I liked Benoit.  After that weekend, even people who were friends with him were like, "Those actions weren't the man I knew.  I would've left my kids with him if I needed a babysitter."  So much has come out since he died, I don't think they really know what it was, if it was psychological problems, too many concussions, steroids, or a combination of all three.

No.43 - The Great Muta - The high-flying demonic kabuki actor. He means to Japan what Ric Flair means to us. I used to love watching Muta in the ring when I was a kid. The high point of every match? Sadly he never really got past midcard in WCW.  Part of the many reasons why the organization tanked, misuse of talent so Hogan and his buddies could get more ring time.

I met him once, when he spoke in my hometown a few years back. Got a one-on-one interview with him. Nice guy, and an entertaining speaker. He started up a Christian ministry after wrestling, and basically travels around talking about how messed up his life got while playing football and wrestling, and how he cleaned up his act afterward. One of the local churches paid to bring him in for a youth event. He's pretty funny, and has some good stories.

Sadly he never really got past midcard in WCW.  Part of the many reasons why the organization tanked, misuse of talent so Hogan and his buddies could get more ring time.

Don't I know it brother. Sounds an awful lot like TNA right now... wonder if it has anything to do with Vince Russo being the head writer.  :tongueout:

My 3rd favourite wrestler of all time behind Bret Hart & Shawn Michaels, Jushin Liger is a fantastic all rounder and really elevated japanese wrestling with his inventive style and technical matches. He can also "sell" anything and "put over" anyone.

50. "The Clawmaster" himself. The one and only BARON VON RASCHKE. Competed in the WWF, AWA and NWA and contended for world titles practically everywhere he went. Had a memorable MSG bout with Bruno Sammartino. And who could ever forget him teaming up with the wild and crazy Mad Dog Vachon? Der clawmaster was simply one of the best. No. 55 - Bam Bam Bigelow - One of the favorites of my youth, I was big on the guy ever since seeing his performance at the end of the first Survivor Series. It was Hulk Hogan's team against Andre the Giant's team. Hogan was counted out at one point, and his other two partners were eliminated, thus leaving Bam Bam against King Kong Bundy, the One Man Gang, and Andre himself. Bam Bam went on to eliminate both Bundy and Gang before finally running out of gas against the Giant. Sadly, couldn't find the clip for that match, but here's a match against IRS.

I always liked the Brawler. I remember the days when he was a legitimate heel. Great character. Now I think he's a road agent, right? WWE usually carts him out when they're in the Boston area just to give the crowd someone to boo voraciously over the whole Yankees-Red Sox feud. :teddyr:

As for Brutus, he's a coach on Hulk Hogan's new reality project "Celebrity Championship Wrestling" where he and former Nasty Boy Brian Knobbs each take 5 "celebrities" under their big sweaty wings to train in the fine art of sports entertainment. After one episode, I see Danny Bonaduce and Dustin Diamond actually having some potential as in-ring performers.

No. 58 - The Big Show - Originally brought into WCW as "the son of Andre the Giant", Show was allowed to be more than just a big monster when he came to WWE. Since his return he's probably in the best shape he's been in since his earlier days. He can get the crowd to love him or hate him depending on what the job calls for and he's one of the few guys who can chokeslam the Undertaker and make it look legit... well, as legit as this stuff can look anyway.  :tongueout:

The WWF(e) and WCW always used him as a professional loser, but he had great in-ring charisma and a much more successful career (title-wise) in the smaller feds in the South.

I liked the Rock a lot.  The guy became a gem on the microphone after his god awful stent as baby face Rocky Maivia. This obviously paid off in Hollywood since he is one of few wrestlers to make it big in film.  As for losing matches to put someone over, its probably the most professional thing to do in wrestling.  That and "selling" the moves their opponants do to them.  Ric Flair was the man at that and The Rock was good also. Hogan never did that.  Or when he did, it was few and far between.  Which is why I liked the ECW guys.  They didn't mind 'putting over' another wrestler.  Plus one thing I like about the Rock is the fact that his movies aren't atrocious.  Hogan had some charisma, but made god-awful movies.  Same with Piper.  Piper could act, but made bad choices, like doing Body Slam and things of that ilk, as opposed to stuff like They Live.

Underrated performer.  Started in ECW, having really great matches with everybody on the roster.  Upped to WCW, where he not only showed that he had personality, but in the span of three weeks won three major titles.  Then got to WWE.  They had no idea what to do with him, and instead of going the route of Benoit and getting him 'over' as a 'wrestler', they decided to have Stone Cold tell the audience to chant 'Boring" at him.  Poor guy.

I know he wrestled in New Japan Pro Wrestling as well but under the name of The Pegasus Kid and Wild Pegasus back in 89-94, so I wonder if they wiped him from their records or have edited his matches as well.

IMO, one the best wrestlers in the WWF (I refuse to use "WWE") back in the mid 90's. Jarrett has remained a good all round performer and is a fantastic, technical "mat" wrestler when able to put over those skills. I caught TNA the other day and he was having a match with Kurt Angle, which was brilliant and the best wrestling I've seen in years - shame they had to ruin it with interferance. (Does any match end fairly anymore??) A very underrated guy at the end of the day (when all is said and done  :teddyr:).

Pretty sure he hasn't been mentioned.  Here's a guy with a legit Olympic Gold Medal, and the ability to not only have great matches, but the ability to be a 'heel', a 'face' and a comedy character at the same time.  Like the time he lost to Tazz by submission, but refused to admit he lost because the "Tazz-mission" is a choke and not a legit submission hold.  Or the time that he lost a tag match but said "Because Steve Blackman was pinned and not me, I DIDN"T lose the match.  He did.  My undefeated record is still good." :bouncegiggle:

The Outlaws complemented each other perfectly, in my opinion.  Road Dogg seemed to carry the team on the mic end, as he seemed to have the ability to talk well, plus having more 'charisma' as they say.  Billy was a bit better on the in ring stuff.

I'd have to say the entire WWE/WWF tag team division from '98-'02 or so was the best they had in a long time.  Hardy's, Dudleys, Outlaws, Edge and Christian, Too Cool, APA, Right to Censor, The Radicalz, Rock and Sock Connection, Head Cheese, etc.  Any match featuring a combination of them was good.

On a somewhat related topic, Vince McMahon has apparently gone crazy once again, demanding that his performers no longer be referred to as "wrestlers" but strictly as "entertainers", and that "sports entertainment" (the term he himself coined for the industry) is no longer allowed to be used in reference to his product as it shall only be referred to as "entertainment". The old man's been off his rocker for a while now, but with this and his recent refusal to allow anyone in his company to call viewers "fans" and instead refer to them en masse as "the WWE Universe", I'd say he's not far from finally losing his mind legitimately...

Vinnie Mac is the reason I pretty much stopped watching wrestling.  (aside from Vince Russo's backstage writing) Once he bought WCW, I really felt no need to go on.  His brand of shock value that he pumped out during the "attitude" era was disgusting, even for me.  Wrestling...er...'entertaining' belongs with two guy fighting in a ring.  Not two guys blabbing on a microphone for 20 minutes.

No.83 - John Bradshaw Layfield - Though good as a big man during his "Texas tough guy" days and as a beer-chugging bar brawler during his time as half of the APA, Bradshaw became a true heel upon taking up his JBL persona. p**sing off the blue collar fans by becoming a Wall Street tycoon, he shaved the mustache, cut his hair, put on a business suit and cranked the smug factor to 11. His in-ring stuff isn't as dynamic today as he gets older (he's got freakin' man tits now), but he makes up for it with great mic work, especially the period when he couldn't cut a promo without referring to himself as a "Wrestling GOD". This government bail out stuff lately has only helped make him a bigger dick.

Great heal at the perfect time.  Nowadays he's known for going off on people but I find those moments entertaining.

No.85 - Sgt. Slaughter - The only professional wrestler to also become an official member of G.I. Joe (), DS's Iron Sheik post immediately made me think of him. He was a good babyface, but he was wicked as a heel. His anti-American turn during the Gulf War and the resulting feuds with Hulk Hogan and Hacksaw Jim Duggan were amazing, especially teamed with the Iron Sheik (under a new name) and that third guy I vaguely remember. "You make me sick, MAGGOT!"

My favorite part is the doctor image of the pair paling around with Saddam Hussein. :bouncegiggle:

I don't think he's been posted, and if he was, sorry.  One of the best high-flyers, ever, and one of the most exciting wrestlers to hit the scene in the past 15 years.

No.88 - Kendo Nagasaki. A weird samurai/Martial Artist-styled wrestler who appeared on British wrestling shows on ITV in the Eighties.

# 89. "NATURE BOY" BUDDY ROGERS: The Original Nature Boy, the first man to win World titles in both the old NWA and WWF. A true legend of the ring wars, was colorful and flamboyant and arguably was the one who set the mold for the role of cocky heel champion. Had legendary wars with Lou Thesz, Pat O' Connor, Haystacks Calhoun to name but a few.

The guy had no personality, but that made him the perfect butt of jokes for the comedy characters. He pulled a few hardcore moves in his day though, including a Titantron dive with...

No.94 - Shane McMahon - The son of the boss, he didn't have to work a day in his life... but he wrestled with reckless abandon and put his ass on the line all the time during his days in the ring. Whether it was the aforementioned drop from the top of the Titantron with Steve Blackman, getting suplexed through sheets of glass by Kurt Angle, or dropkicking a trashcan into somebody's face from across the ring, Shane O Mac could fly!

That's crazy talk.  "No personality" my ass.  The dude had more personality than The Rock, Stone Cold and Hulk Hogan combined.  I agree about Shane McMahon though.

98.) Booker T.

Booker T is a very underrated wrestler.  Carried his brother Stevie Ray to watchable matches when they were tag team partners as Harlem Heat.  Not only that, but was one of the few shining lights in WCW at the bitter end, especially considering all their 'main event talent' like Hogan, Nash, Steiner, Savage and Piper all disappeared.

100.) Fit Finlay
(http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s149/DALIA_CANNAVARO/finlay.jpg)

His name is Finlay, and he LOVES to fight.  Besides, he's not a bad trainer either.  Made the WWE "Divas' division somewhat better than it should be.  Not all the divas can 'wrestle', but he can claim Molly Holly, Trish Stratus, Victoria and a couple others as being his trainees.
