Title: Tonight's Family Guy episode...
Post by: AnubisVonMojo on October 19, 2008, 08:29:46 PM
So I'm watching the new Family Guy. Stewie, Brian, and Mort have gone back in time to WW2 Germany. While flying a British plane into Berlin, Brian's declares that they're outnumbered by Nazi fighters, only to have Stewie disagree as... PRINCE VULTAN AND THE HAWKMEN ARRIVE TO DISMANTLE THE NAZI AIR FORCE!  :buggedout:

For any who are curious, yes, Vultan does shout "DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!"  :teddyr:

If you wanted to see the episode and couldn't (or you just want to see the corresponding clip), the episode is up on imdb.com right now (http://www.imdb.com/video/hulu/vi3395485721/).

Family Guy is not exactly known for any sort of quality, but this episode was so hideously unfunny that I actually kept staring at my TV in disbelief.  It's that bad.

It tries so desperately to be "edgy" by stringing together a series of anti-Semitic and infantile "jokes" that are totally pointless, tasteless, and unfunny.

In a pathetic attempt to be "topical", the episode also shows a Nazi outfit with a "McCain/Palin" pin on it.  Nice try, MacFarlane.

Not "edgy".  Not funny.  Not amusing.  Not good.

A dreadful effort, even by Family Guy's standards.

I quite liked the last episode, but not last night's.  The last episode was the one based around the classic 1960's song by the Trashmen: "Surfin Bird."

Family Guy is <...>

Not "edgy".  Not funny.  Not amusing.  Not good.

True.  But it is absurd.  There may not be genuine hilarity in the "gags" anymore but there are guffaws to be had at the inanity of the series itself.

The real problem is, ever since it came back on the air, it seems like they guys behind the scenes are daring FOX to cancel them again by producing low quality inept garbage.  The series has the feel of something being milked for all it's worth while doing as little as humanly possible to actually earn the money contracted for.

Then again this show jumped the shark so long ago it's become a pointless caricature of it's former self.  The show was only fun when Stewie was trying to take over the world, kill his mother, and couldn't decide whether or not to commit patricide or merely turn the big fat fool into his zombie slave.

I must admit, the show can be quite funny and even clever at times... when it doesn't resort to stupid toilet humor and pathetic attempts to be "shocking".

I'll have to disagree with Metropolis and Kester, although it is immature and stupid, I still find it to be one of the funniest shows on televison.

I like the Family Guy a lot but this show tanked.  They always seem to tank in episodes where Brain and Stewie go on some sort of massive adventure.  I think its more or less because Peter often makes the show.  Stewie and Brian are much better as supporting characters.  This one even had to resort to Johnny B. bringing up Jerky Boys Sol Rosenberg material in his guise of Mort.   I like the Jerky Boys and Family Guy but I don't see the point of combining the two for a cheap laugh.

I agree with Kester to a point, Stewie was better when he was a sadistic baby.  Although I can see why they changed him around to be questionably gay seeing violent Stewie would have become a one trick pony.  Still, the gay Stewie jokes are getting old.  Thats why I liked the "Stewie Kill Lois" episodes which were great...up until the end of course.

Oh well, theres always other episodes in which the show will undoubtedly shine.
