Here's the main theme, if you imagine skimming across the Florida everglades as this plays, it's pretty cool:

apNLPvsrPgA I love Phantasm, but it would not have been half as good without it's brilliant musical cues. Admittedly, not the scariest ever but thanks to it's eerie score (Including the above main theme), a greatly directed piece of work. Most of it is music that I wouldn't normally be interested in, but somehow together the tracks just work. I bring up Death Proof b/c I've been listening to it a lot as of late. The audio clips from the movie suck compared to other soundtracks like Pulp Fiction, but the music is a great mix of songs and compositions, including one from the master himself, Morricone. :teddyr:

When he was reaching the editing stage, KUBRICK couldn't bear not to use the exact recordings he had listened to while filming and assembling the film. KUBRICK's choice (which resulted in at least one lawsuit) seems perfect.

There isn't a minute of the sound of this film that I don't really like, or even love, but I don't like all the permutations of its cuts.
BLADE RUNNER, with a score by VANGELIS, is kind of one of my favorite films, but hardly perfect and I'm well aware of its many flaws. When the film was new I saw it several times, and even brought a tape recorder into a movie theatre in order to tape the soundtrack and forgot about it and CLUNK it went (yes on those 1 hour tapes that were the hot new thing in the early '80s) that was embarrassing (but I got the tape flipped) :teddyr: All that 'cause the soundtrack way back when was unreleased, hence not available, and in legal dispute; I remember I had even bought a kind of lousy ripoff orchestral recording LP that used the music composed by VANGELIS and tried to fill the gap, but VANGELIS was almost all electronic on that soundtrack, and had a tone that only his droning, melancholic and haunting recordings held. (http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drf300/f372/f37285ig9ta.jpg) "Nichols' masterstroke was to transplant these pre-existing songs into his film, where they not only meshed perfectly with the story's themes of youthful rebellion and alienation but also heralded a new era in movie music centered around the appropriation of past pop hits, a marketing gimmick that grew exponentially in the years to follow." -Jason Ankeny, All-Music Guide (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:39fpxqu5ld6e) Title: Re: Top 100 Movie Soundtracks/Scores Post by: Rat-Bat-Spider on December 02, 2008, 07:09:01 PM The Fountain Soundtrack, by Clint Mansell, the Kronos Quartet, and Mogwai is amazing. Say what you will about the movie (I loved it), but the music will tear at you and leave you undeniably moved.

75. PI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRgIbKEsYT4&feature=related I don't genrally like electronica much, but it was the perfect match for the film. Title: Re: Top 100 Movie Soundtracks/Scores Post by: LisaLove on December 03, 2008, 02:34:14 AM indiana JONES!

Skip ahead to 1:55 immediately after the car drops off the bridge, the music starts with the credits. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMC6AFPMzQI&feature=PlayList&p=19F6E1FC8C9BDB0C&playnext=1&index=22 Title: Re: Top 100 Movie Soundtracks/Scores Post by: meQal on February 04, 2009, 05:22:53 AM Going to just name 3 soundtrack/scores that I always felt were classics that were not listed.
78.) Lord of the Rings Trilogy The soundtrack was great and really help set the tone of the films for me but I am a bit of a fantasy geek. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1YbLL3ERpU 79.) Far And Away the movie wasn't that great but the music was. It made watching a crappy film seem like watching an ok film. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqrxX_ebl7Q 80.) The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Swear it's main title theme is one of the ultimate guy music pieces in film. Even if you don't know the film, odds are you know the opening title music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EO9YwGuu0D0 Title: Re: Top 100 Movie Soundtracks/Scores Post by: RCMerchant on February 04, 2009, 05:32:20 AM 80. the RAMONES et al-ROCK AND ROLL HIGH SCHOOL!!!!

Marathon Man - Already a great thriller, the dark, grating electronic-sounding score makes it all the more effective. Sadly, I can't find a clip, and apparently they never made a soundtrack CD. :(

THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQGcSWP4xyw With a brief intro by Herrmann biographer Stephen Smith explaining Herrmann's use of backmasking in the main title music. It's not terribly noticeable, but it does give the music an unearthly edge. Title: Re: Top 100 Movie Soundtracks/Scores Post by: InformationGeek on February 07, 2009, 01:33:14 PM 85. Jaws
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvCI-gNK_y4 There's a lot more to the soundtrack than just this piece, but I can't anymore on YouTube. Title: Re: Top 100 Movie Soundtracks/Scores Post by: Woodwoman on February 13, 2009, 03:04:27 PM The Fifth Element - "Heat"
