Such sad news! Studs Terkel last week was bad enough even though he was in his 90's, but I didn't even know Michael Crichton was ill. Such a sad and untimely passing!

Michael Crichton has died at the age of 66. This is sad news for all of his fans, like myself. Jurassic Park is both one of my favorite books and movies. His books were both fascinating, interesting, and some of the best modern science fiction being written today. Not one to limit himself, Crichton's work included historical fiction, social commentary, and others. His latest book Next, was a great read which realistically delt with genetic engenering. JP was the monster movie version, Next delt with gene patents, research, and the problems that could happen today. This is a loss for the literary world. He was the guy who answered my question as to why I liked (and still do like) dinosaurs as a kid: in Jurassic Park, he has Alan Grant say that children saw dinosaurs as 'symbolic parents'. :smile: Title: Re: R.I.P. I'm afraid that I've only read Sphere which was pretty good and WAY better than the film, but he was certainly a man with some interesting ideas.
