Title: The ASCII Art Thread
Post by: Metropolisforever on November 08, 2008, 09:11:18 AM
On this thread, you can post art pictures with ASCII, Shift JIS, or whatever you want to use.

NOTE TO ANDREW: I reserve the right to post artistic naked text people if I damn well feel like it. :tongueout:

NOTE FROM ANDREW:  I reserve the right to do anything that will prevent this entire site from being placed on any more content filtering block lists such as Websense and Smart Filter, or to be dropped from the advertising networks that ensure it can stay online.

That is why your one post was edited.  In this case, you seem to be trying to find a creative way to tweak my nose on purpose.  All things considered, I recommend you don't.  I am not looking for an argument, and what I do is not intended to provoke one, but if you try to do things to disrupt the board I will take corrective action.

Ugh... why did you remove that?

It was a beautifully detailed work of art, and it's not going to make any difference on web filters.

I find it quite amusing how it's okay to post videos of people getting their intestines ripped out, but it's not okay to post a naked text person.

Also, several YouTube videos with nudity have been hotlinked on these forums.

Then I suggest you link to the site where you found the picture.  I feel like I explain myself to you more than I do to my 3-year-old.

Wow, that's a little rude, don't you think? (http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/confused/confused0027.gif)

And what are you trying to tell me?  That I can go ahead and post the text file again?  That you want me to just LINK to it?  What do you want me to do?

Metropolis,

First off let me give you a compliment; you have had some excellent ideas on the board. (examples..Picture Game, First Film That Comes To Mind)  I've enjoyed participating in these posts and so haven't many others.  However at times (and several board members have noticed this apparently) you come off as a teenager who stomps his feet when things don't go their way.  That and you blast off negative karma like its going out of style.

Andrew has been more than patient with you and you shouldn't talk to him like he's your 6th grade middle school teacher.  He has a set of rules for a site he pays for and this behavior isn't going to win you any friends here.  So have a little respect and use your head when you're posting.   I'd like to continue to see what you come up with in the vein of the examples I made above.   You're better than this behavior and you know it.

Your first post in this thread definitely intended to make some sort of statement or insult me.  Do not expect me to be perfectly polite, though I will not go out of my way to be rude.  You wanted to annoy me, so you will need to deal with me annoyed.

Now, Darksider just gave some excellent advice.  My suggestion for the ASCII art you posted is to link to the site where you found it and provide a "possibly NSFW" warning.  There is a large difference between linking to such material and actually having it on this site.

To be 100% honest, I did NOT intend to "make a statement or insult you".

I posted that artwork with serious intentions.

That little comment about you was just supposed to be a cheeky little joke.

I am sorry for any trouble I may have caused.

...and for anyone who wants to see what all the hubbub is about, you can find it here: http://artscene.textfiles.com/asciiart/morgana.pic

Okay; that art apparently was made with a photograph as a template, so in my humble opinion, it's cool, but a bit graphic.  I state this as another member of this site having had an image removed because it was deemed inappropriate (the original and UK cover of JIMI HENDRIX's Electric Ladyland).  It was Andrew, our host and webmaster, who removed the photo and after the fact, I understood and respected his choice.  Please consider doing the same.

There is a difference between those pictures.

Your picture was an album cover depicting various naked women in different poses.  Many will argue that the album cover has strong sexual overtones.  I am certainly not condemning that album cover, but it was far more graphic than my picture.

My picture was simply an artistic, naked human body, rendered with TEXT.

I seriously doubt that anyone is going to shocked and offended by a naked text person.

Would it be against the rules to post a picture of Michelangelo's David?  After all, that sculpture depicts a naked person.

Simple answer: Andrew is the boss. He sets up rules for the board so people of all ages can come to it and exchange ideas and opinions within limits to as not to risk offending anyone. You don't have to kiss his ass, just respect his rules as long as you're on his board. One man's art is another man's porn. It's not your world, you learn to accept that people aren't always going to side with you, and you get over it. You can make your own board and post anything and everything you want. Plenty of sites still offer free forum setup if you're interested. I put anything I want on my own website, but I know that when I'm playing in someone else's yard, I follow their rules or I leave. If you break the rules, you apologize (or plead ignorance), thank the person in charge for not being a dick and just booting you from the page, you don't do whatever it was again, and you either go about your business or you just go. Seriously, much like the rest of us, the man's got a life and, as thick headed as I am, even I can tell he doesn't need more hassles and b.s. to give him one more reason NOT to provide the rest of us with a bad movie socializing hub. Believe me, I've contributed to the man's stress in the past and it only left me feeling like an a***ole afterward.

And with that, I'm putting my soapbox back in the garage for another 6 months... with any luck.

Andrew is looking out for his sponsors, that is all. With all due respect, if you can't understand that, then I doubt explaining it any further is going to do any good. You're arguing semantics where you aren't in any position to argue in the first place. You "seriously doubt", well that's easy when it's not your dime. If you think so, put together your own site, get a bunch of sponsors, and thumb your nose at THEM. Andrew depends on sponsors, and those sponsors have an image they try and maintain, and they do so by setting standards of decency, and staying within those standards by quite a wide margin. There ARE people that would be offended by that picture, Not My fault, not Andrew's fault. Quite frankly, your point of view on this matter comes off as juvenile.

For God's sake... I DID listen to his rules.  I did exactly what he told me to do, and I even apologized to him (twice).

What more do you want me to do?

Don't talk to me like you're my father, and don't you dare accuse me of being an "a***ole" towards Andrew.  Andrew is the boss, and you are not.  So stop trying to act like one.

Metropolis:

Please reread Darksider's message.  I think he said it best.

I think you want to fit in around here.  When you're in a good mood you're a very valuable poster.  I must admit your knowledge of obscure titles is impressive.  But when you disagree with a decision you seem to become defensive and argumentative.  This behavior will only get you tossed off a forum you seem to enjoy.

Anubis responded the way he did because you continued to argue that the picture belonged on here after the decision went against you.  It sounds like you turned the anger you couldn't express towards Andrew on him.  Maybe that's not the case, but that's the impression you're giving.

I think your best move here is not to argue any further with anyone, post a smiley, let the thread die and go back to one of the successful threads you started.

My picture was simply an artistic, naked human body, rendered with TEXT.

...and his was a matrix of colored blocks arranged in such a way as to simulate the appearance of nude human bodies.

People like you are the reason I've decided not to be a father in the first place: because you don't listen, or in this instance, read the words in front of you. I said that I did something like this before, it caused an issue, and I harped on it too, thus I felt like an a-hole when it was said and done. Whether or not you can stop, look back on this, and understand what it is you're doing that's annoying the crap out of everyone or not will determine how you see yourself once this topic dies.

Between this and the way you acted on your Kwaidan thread, you're either the type of person who repeats their case over and over and over until everyone agrees with you or gets bored and moves on (again, been there, done that, still felt like an ass afterward), or you just keep pushing your point because you need the attention. The latter of which is epitomized perfectly by the aforementioned Kwaidan thread, in which you just repeatedly posted new responses to to keep it near the top of the forum until the thread was locked. And after the thread was locked? You started a new thread arguing with Andrew that he needed to unlock the original thread because you insisted that it was relevant!

Either way you're getting your attention now, much like a pimple on prom night or my friend's 3 year-old does when he wants a candy bar at the supermarket. If you want to avoid getting your posts deleted (this is, what, the second in less than a week after whatever your MySpace thread was supposed to be about?), maybe you should start running your ideas past one of the moderators first if you're not sure whether your ideas of what's acceptable are contrary to the forum's TOS. Whatever the case, respond to me how you like after this, but in lieu of an "ignore" button, I'm now going to hypnotize myself to be blind to your posts. Done. :teddyr:

On another note, much as it pains me to type this (it's literally making my fingers turn black and cracked), if you're reading this Menard, my apologies.

I honestly think Metropolis has learned his lesson, hopefully we can all move on before the flames get fanned to an epic level.
