Title: Sleepwalkers
Post by: Andrew on November 30, 2008, 08:12:55 AM
Charles and his mother seem like nice people, but they are really incestuous, soul-sucking, feline monsters whose natural enemies are...drum roll please...ordinary house cats.

Andrew, I do have a dog that is named Torgo.  He seems to be less a hell-hound and more a mooch.

If he limps, then that sounds like the perfect canine Torgo.

I unfortunately saw this piece of cinematic crap in theaters when it originally came out.  The part where they're literally flinging fake cats at him still cracks me up to this day.

I saw it on Cinemax, the corn stabbing scene is classic.

Well, it can be said that the film did try to create some new monster lore. Too bad it was all pretty stupid. Wasn't sexy incest Mom the sexy ghost in Ghost Story?

I remember this movie, it sure is 1 of those so bad-its good types of movies. However, Madchen Amick as Tanya was so adorable (DREAM LOVER is her best movie).
Poor Ron Perlmen must have needed a quick paycheck when he starred in this one.   :teddyr:

The first time I saw that I hurt myself laughing.  Death by corn-on-the-cob.

They should have followed the nihilistic story of the sleepwalkers.  The part that was hinted at when Charles and Mary have the worried discussion about her needing to eat, and that they haven't seen another sleepwalker in a long time.

That is indeed her:

Slow motion analysis CLEARLY reveals the crew member's hands 'helping' the 'cat' to jump on the guy. Which begs the question: has anybody ever seen a realistic 'pet attack' in any film, ever ?

I hate this film, my ex had it on VHS and made me watch it about 4 or 5 times. Utter rubbish with really bad effects.

As a huge Stephen King fan, after watching this film I hid my cats eyes in shame, I was in Misery, and had Insomnia.

Not a shining example of his art! Cujo suggest what the main problem was!

You missed Mark Hamill's cameo.

You must not have read the first two paragraphs of the review.  This is the first:

Quote
The film starts in a rather disorienting manner. Part of this is that the first time you see the movie you might assume the beginning sets up the rest of the story to be told as a flashback. That is not the case. The primary reason that the opening of "Sleepwalkers" bewilders viewers is that it features Mark Hamill with a thick moustache, and he is trying to thread his way through a suspended forest of mutilated cat carcasses.

I spied this last summer in the cheap dvd bin at Walgreens for 2.99. Too many wtf hilarious moments to count. Alice Krige was perfect to play the weird ass incest sleepwalker mom. Has she ever had a normal non-evil role in anything?

I sneaked into the theater in 1992 with my 15 year old brother to watch this movie.  I was ten years old at the time and the movie frightened me beyond belief.  I remember being curled up on the theater chair biting - yes, biting - the clothing of my brother to help dissipate the fear this movie invoked.  The cemetery scene, where the girl of my dreams was helpless to the mutant cat-man, is what I recall as the most frightening.  I remember that she was alone and helpless to his powers.  Fortunately the officer arrived, but he quickly had a pencil rammed into his ear before he was shot dead.  Thank goodness for Clovis!  The other scenes scare me as well.  The regressed feelings of fear induced by this movie are now on my frontal lobe.  I do find typing this statement therapeutic, however.  I will Netflix this film to verify that my fears are unwarranted.

The saving grace to me is that we sneaked into the movie 'The Cutting Edge' immediately after this viewing.  It subdued my immediate fears from 'Sleepwalkers,' which is why I remember TCE as a good movie.  I know that TCE is bad - really, really bad - and could definitely be reviewed on this website.  however, my emotional bond to TCE will always transcend its lunacy.

I thought it was alright...
Don't hate me for it.

Stephen King is a bit overrated
Why do people hardly ever do Clive Barker books...Look how good Candyman and Hellraiser were.
