Title: Boston Legal RIP
Post by: ER on December 08, 2008, 06:02:02 PM
This used to be a great series. Went downhill the last couple seasons but still worth watching...most of the time. I think just as The Practice was dark in a mostly happy decade, so Boston Legal's antics and inane moments have been a good foil for the tension of the the tens.

Denny, Alan, Shirley, Jerry, plus all the gang who already left the series, er, I mean "were transferred to other branches of Crane, Poole and Schmidt" you'll be missed...at least till I go to Target and get the last two seasons on DVD.

Good article about it on MSN:

I agree that that last couple of seasons weren't quite up par with what had come before but it was still better than a ton of other stuff clogging the networks.  Shatner was a hoot!

I was just talking about the episode where Shat wanted Spader to sleep with him because he was a sleepwalker. Man that was a funny episode. Spad and Shat were a good, solid team.

I would still watch it for the balcony scenes, but it dropped off very quickly after the first few seasons.

I still think Denny Crane to be one of the single funniest characters ever on network TV.  I loved it when he shot his own client in the leg during a rape trial!!

The whole thing got too damn preachy over the years -- I didn't mind the occasional politically charged argument in the courtroom, but gradually the whole show came to be about the social politics and not enough about the funny.  Preach if you must, but make it FUNNY, dammit -- I stopped watching regularly after I found I was starting to flip channels in the middle of lectures by characters on the show.  Oh, well . . . I will still recall it with some fondness, plus our local ION station is running 3 reruns a night from the first season!
