Time-traveling cyborgs use dinosaurs to hunt a flannel-wearing kickboxer who only speaks "Bible."  Hooray for time travel!  Hooray for flannel!  Hooray for dinosaurs and cyborgs!  Hooray for fla...I already said that, didn't I?




This is my entry in the 2009 Time Travel Roundtable:

Notice how the when the big guy gets knocked down in the clip, he briefly turns into an inflatable sex toy? Too bad Robert Z'Dar wasn't allowed to get all Maniac Cop on Runway's a$$.

This film is in the MST3000 20th Anniversary Edition.... which I just got for Christmas. Should be fun...or painful.

I am proud to own this, one of the very worst of the movies in my collection; not so much that it is poorly made (which it is) but also that it takes itself so seriously in ridiculous moments and is so ridiculous in its serious moments.

The "Runaway" later goes on to co-star in the short lived lived action Mortal Kombat sereies.  For another Terminator reference-That MK series also co-stared Kristina Lokien, who would appear in Terminator 3.   There's a little trivia for you.


As a practicing Catholic, I can tell you that most of our ceremonies do not include Dinosaurs and Cyborgs.  At least not at my parish.

 

I have yet to watch MST3K's version of this, but someone who has apparently seen both mentioned that every time they reach for "Future War" their hand is inexorably drawn to the MST3K version.

For my part, the movie is incredibly bad, but I think it's so bad that it starts being entertaining.  I almost gave it two out of four slimes.  If you are watching it with a bunch of other people, then the opportunity for everyone to talk and keep things interesting during the dead sections should make for a much more enjoyable viewing.

Still cannot figure out why the time-traveling cyborgs insist on chasing after Runaway.

The line that SHOULD have been in that clip:

RUNAWAY: "Let us run from the dinosaur!"
SISTER ANN: "No, let's stay with my friends, they have a riotgun and a baseball bat! Also there are knives in the kitchen, the dinosaurs' only weakness!"

Why didn't they just go back in time, to prevent him from escaping in the first place? I mean, I guess if you have trained dinosaurs, you're gonna want to use 'em, but still...

The guy who played the Runaway was actually in the second Matrix movie.

He played one of the guys in suits, I can't remember what they were called.

My best guess would be that if they kept telling the slaves that escapees were tracked down and munched by dinos without any physical evidence, the slaves might catch on and figure they're all bluster. Nothing like presenting the severed head of the escapee to the masses to circumvent that line of thought.

Okay, just finished watching the MST3K version and I can't imagine watching that thing as released or by myself. I really wish they would have started the film at the flashback scene in the jail. That made more sense of everything up to that point then actually watching it.

I've only seen the MST3K version which was bad enough. I could see though where this one would be ripe for watching in its original version with some beers and some friends to throw comments at the screen.

Long overdue review on this site.   Not only was this guy in Matrix 2, but also Bloodsport 2-4.   I loved the fight sequence between Daniel Bernhardt and Kazja,  as he throws a box in slow motion.   This is a perfect movie to mock,   and the special effects are sub-par to porno versions of Jurassic Park (If such exist,  Jurassic Pork?)    Still as a veteran of both viewings of Future War with MST3K and without,  the episode is worth it just for the "He's more like Jean-Claude Gosh Darn")

Future War is one awesomely stupid film. A must see.

I remember the runaway from a mortal kombat series in the 90's. Did anyone else watch that?

it is so awful.
They barely tried to make this film.
If you have to use a Jean-Claude Van Damm wannabe? Probably not going to be a good movie.
They make cardboard boxes have clanking metal sounds that something hits them for god sake.
It's a thinly wooded box...not iron.
