Title: I Just Taught My Cat...
Post by: RCMerchant on January 28, 2009, 08:58:27 PM
I just taght my cat to swat at cigerette smoke. He was sitting on top of my computer tower (which sits on the floor) and he was watching me light a cigerette with real intense interest. I guess it's fascinating to him. So's I hid my cigerette behind my knee and he can only see the smoke curling up. So I start swatting it with my hand...and he started doing it. He eventually started going apesh!t with it...and I hadda toss him.  :buggedout:

Do any of you have a cat...and do you f#ck with his head?

My cat lives outside for the most part.  Him and I have a pretty good trust since we've know each other for about 9 years.  I used to play the flashlight game with him where he'd chase the light all over the house.  I remember he used to play fetch when he was a kitten. Now that he's outside, I occasionally put him in my son's pool before I empty it during the summer time.  I figure he would appreciate cooling off...he usually doesn't.   :teddyr:

I try to avoid messing with my cats' heads cause they are insane enough on their own. I suspect thy have a crystal meth lab hidden somewhere in my home for their personal use cause they all act like they are on drugs.

When I was a kid, I baptized my girlfriend's cat in her swimming pool.  Turned out the cat was demon possessed and attacked me to escape the holy chlorinated water.   :teddyr:Tore the pool lining too.  Her Dad was not happy!  :hatred:

I have a cat (and two dogs).  My cat is going to be 17 years old in a few weeks.  She has kidney failure and requires special food, medicine and "the treatment" (with a needle and bag of fluid - every day).  I take it easy on her now, but I used to f*ck with her head... like having a toy on a string that she chases, and then drag it faster and faster in a tight circle and she'd run after it, run after it, and after a few moments I'd stop and poor kitty wouldn't be able to stand up straight she'd get so dizzy.

Here's my crew:

Heres my good buddy Tig...

His fur oddly turns a bit orange in winter.  I think his mom got around.   :bouncegiggle: He was a bit fat in that picture but he's toned now due to his outdoor activities.  Chasing mice, fighting other cats, running around the neighborhood...etc...

yes, me and my cat styles aka biggy (he's really big)  have regular wrestling matches.  the trick is to blow on him till he attacks your face.  itys like doing jackass sstunts for no audience.  so why do it?  good question!

Your cat is declawed?  I was talking to a friend of mine in SFO tonight and he said that there is a law in California where you may NOT declaw your cat.  My kitty is NOT declawed and I have rebuked too many persons for having declawed their cats, but I will say that having a law...

I was unaware at first of the declawing operation's cruelty but the lady we adopted from explained it great detail that its a pretty gruesome operation to put a pet through.

My cat has hardly ever scratched me on purpose, even when we're playing.   Granted when he spent more time indoors he ruined a lot of furniture on us.  That and he knocked over my old Playstation 2 ruining it and a vase of water into a television.  He's cost me at least a thousand dollars in damages but I still love the furball.  He does much less damage to house outside luckily.

I have 4 cats all strays I picked up from the street and oddly enough all female.....and crazy. Messing with their head equals them breaking something you own.

Almost sounds like human females to me.

I have SIX cats! That's about 5 cats too many, but I love them all and can't get rid of any of them.  I "inherited" 2 (1 died :bluesad:) from my former roomate, found 2, accepted 2 others from friend's cats that had kittens, and 1 came from an accidental pregnancy of one of my cats (luckily she only had 2 and I was able to give one to a friend - they're all "fixed" now if you can call it that).  They do way too many great things to list all of them.

One of my favorites though - Our cat, Santa Claws, combs my husbands beard!  He climbs on his chest, snuggles into him, and then just rakes his sharp, sharp, claws on his beard... it's very cute. Santa Claws also gingerly nibbles my nose and gently puts his paw on my face and rests.  I think he likes faces.

Of course they go nuts with the laser pointer (not in the eyes!!) and the weird cardboard and wire thing they sell at the pet store and mirrors.

Oh, they catch bugs too!  I haven't seen a living insect that wasn't being pursued by at least 2 cats in years!

Are you smoking catnip cigarettes, by any chance?

Speaking of catnip, I've never owned a cat (I'm terribly allergic to them) but I've heard stories about this stuff.  Anyone ever treat their cats to any, and if so what were the results?

catnip never worked on either of my cats. I read that reaction to it is hereditary and not all cats are affected by it. My other cat would step over catnip to lick and chew on my cigarettes. The one i have now could care less, i bought a giant canister of it and when i sprinkle it around, put her toy in it or stuff it inside of a sock she looks at it indifferently and walks off.

My mom's cat went nuts the first time he had catnip! He was diving all over the place and looked stoned. Most of the time he is really lazy and doesn't play at all. But, after the first time, he wasn't interested in it and it had no effect.

Currently we got 12 cats in my house. We're waiting on the youngest to be weened so we can get rid of most of them to the local animal shelter. How we ended up with 12 is cause the a friend of my wife gave us two with the assurance that both were female. Well they weren't and we now have a house full of cats.
Thing is the cats seem to know that we are fixing to clear all but two of them out. They even seem to be trying to learn job skills. One is learning about plumbing by following my wife into the bathroom all the time. Another is learning about electrical wiring by unplugging my television while another is learning home decor by shredding my blinds. And I even got one who wants to work for computer tech support by destroying my keyboard.
However their best skill is sanitation engineering reversal. They aret he best I have ever seen and scattering trash, food, dirt. and whatever else they can across a home as quickly as possible.

According to the Wikipedia, it takes some time after an exposure to catnip for an effected cat to be able to feel the effects again. Kinda weird.

I'm sorry for your loss.

We had a cat. Made the mistake of having her declawed and she just gave up all  hope and died. We were doing it so we could let her out of the bathroom where she stayed because she tore EVERYTHING up with her claws and we weren't home enough to train her. We killed that cat out of good intentions, but we killed her all the same. I love cats, but I don't think I can have another one after her. I still cry when I think about that cat.

While my sister was doing pharmacy rotations prior to earning her degree her cat Morgan - my avatar kitty - stayed with me for about five months.  Long enough for her to adopt me as her human uncle.  Once my sister graduated and moved to St. Louis Morgan went with her.  I miss Morgan and think about her almost every day.

You have my sympathies.  I know how hard it can be to lose a kitty.  Our last cat, Pooh, got to be about 18 years old and got arthritis so bad that on her last day, she couldn't even move any more.  We had to have her put to sleep.  Saddest day of my life.

Speaking of declawing, we got our cat Scooter from the animal shelter, and didn't even realize he was declawed until a couple of days later.  He's got a fantastic disposition, and it doesn't seem to bother him at all.  I'd NEVER have that done to a cat, but since it already was done, well, it's pretty nice that he doesn't destroy anything  :teddyr:  He's strictly an indoor cat, so he doesn't need to defend himself.

Cats that have been declawed need to be adopted too.     Leaving a cats claws in is the fair and logical thing to do if one chooses to adopt a cat.  Some cats are a problem with clawing, and adopters need to think about the downside of any pet ownership: for one thing, responsibility.  I had no significant clawing problem with my girl, my good girl.  My sweetheart.

Aw so sorry!

I lost my cat Harold a couple years ago.  3 weeks after taking him to the vet with a $500 bill and being told he was perfectly healthy for his age when he clearly wasn't.  He was the most cuddly loving cat ever - he peed on my face once, and often peed on the bed, but he had a pee problem so I couldn't get too mad.  I'll always have cats.  I still have 6 cats and they're all special in their own stupid way.

Declawing is supposed to be one of the worst things you can do to a cat, but the word is if you get it done early, the cat won't miss them.  All my stupid cats have all their stupid claws and use them to the fullest potential.  Cutting them actually works though.  And I did try those plastic nail caps which are better, but they don't always stay on.

I have to tell all of you that I love this forum.  BELA, I had PM'd you about my girl weeks ago, including my crappy job, etc, when you wrote to me about my absence from the board (which was appreciated and kind.)  The world certainly gives us all plenty to think or worry about.  I am quite fond of you all on this forum, having met none of you, yet feeling a kind of intimacy that I only have with close friends.
Bad Movie Lovers:

She looks like an ordinary pretty little cat, but Boobooloo (not her name, but I never called her by her name) was special.  She had been taken away from me when still very young, and I was able to later reclaim her from a flea-infested hovel where a kind crazy lady had taken her in with all her many other animals... (long crazy story 'bout My Girl)  She was as kitty koo-koo as they can be, but this gentle cat was also remarkably intuitive and so sweet, never cloying or annoying as many cats are, never mean only a bit diffident as most other cats are, this friendly confident sweetheart who liked strangers was my favored companion for 16 years.

I have my beagle with his nose up her butt, and my terrier runt.
All three of these animals needed homes; I can't tell you how fortunate I have been with them all.  I add this last bit in case anyone is considering adopting an animal, is ready to shoulder the responsibility, and is looking for the love a companion animal can provide and is in need of, whether from a breeder, a pet shop, or a shelter, all such animals need a home.
