Title: Do you think people think your weird?
Post by: RCMerchant on February 01, 2009, 08:07:24 PM
I think some people think I'm weird. Most don't...I don't think...I mean... co-workers and everybody else in the world?

By far yes I've been called the "odd duck" in just about every job, school and social setting I've ever been in.  But the good news is I guess I'm a likeable "weird" as in people don't try to avoid me.  In other words, I'm not "weird" as in that guy in Walmart who everyone runs from in the store because he's shouting obscenities at canned goods.  That and if they call me weird its usually to my face in a fun manner and never in a negative way.   Thats probably because I call myself "weird" more than anyone else.   :bouncegiggle:  I have to say here around most of you fine folks, I feel quite normal.

I'm about the same way,I think. People like me...but I think they think I'm weird anyway. But in a good way. I think. Like you, I don't feel out of place....just know that I am...not . Here I amok kindered souls...

Not that I think anybody here is weird! I just KNOW we are okay....!

Of course...that may be my own perception. About uhhhh...I dunno...Even when I was a crazy punk rocker, old farmers liked me. But I KNOW they think I'm weird.I was not a big chick magnet...even though I was super sexy and cool.(  )

Thats the thing with me too mainly because I have a wide array of interests.  For example, I can talk passionately about vegetable gardening and cooking with an older person but they are shocked to find out I'm into other things like horror films and heavy metal music.   :bouncegiggle:

Opening up to women has been a struggle in the past for me.  Hell, opening up to anyone new is hard for me.  I think its because at first I'm afraid the person won't get my humor.  I'm very dry/sick in the humor department and some people may think I'm serious when I'm not.  However, there have been some lovely ladies who "get" me right away.  Oddly, its never the ones I expected to get me like this one hot blonde in my biology class in college.  Turns out she had a sicker sense of humor than me.

Nowadays, depending on the social situation, I tend to be more open towards new people I meet.  However, in generally there is always that anxiety boiling somewhere.

Well, nowadays I don't give a flying fXck what people think of me. If they think I'm weird...that's okay with me. I used to feel self concious about it........then I wore it like a Badge of Indepence....now... I don't care what they think. Nothing really affects me as far as what strangers think. I just babble. Most folks still like me though...even though I have been in hibernation for years.

Most people don't find me weird, just the people that seem drawn to me. I seem to be a living magnet for the strange, odd, and weird. If a person, event, or anything else fits into the catagory of weird then eventually it finds me.

When people first meet me they tend to think I'm weird, but once they get to know me they know I'm weird. But they accept it and more often than not enjoy it. Anyone who doesn't think I'm weird from the start usually changes their tune the first time I tell them that I would gladly eat human flesh if it were offered to me fresh and cooked properly like any piece of meat.  :drink:

I started off answering yes, but at the last second I changed my vote to "Who cares?" I have yet to find a place where I truly feel like I fit in; I'm far too dry for most people, though, like Darksider, when people "get" me, they love my sense of humor. Most people think I'm very serious all the time, right up until they realize I can't resist a punch line and will ridicule almost anything (myself included). Because I come across as serious, most people will take me as an authority on almost any subject, so sometimes I have fun convincing them of truly ridiculous things (I once convinced a young woman that Santa Anna won at the Alamo by driving Sherman tanks over the walls). I always let people off the hook, though, eventually. I'm way too nice, so I guess some people may think it's phony, but I really am just a nice guy. I have a strong personality, but it is also a very quiet one, so some people try to run all over me. Sometimes I let them, but only when it is about something I would have given in on anyway. I have spent most of my life alone (very few if any friends), so I have been stuck in my own skull; I like who I am and see no reason to change just to fit in with people who wouldn't like me for who I am. I had that attitude even in high school, and that hasn't changed. I have very singular (but also very broad) tastes, in film, in music, in food, in people, in pretty much everything, but I make very few recommendations because most people tend to ignore my suggestions anyway.

Thus concludes the "way more than anyone cared to know about Derf" section. We now return you to your regularly scheduled program, "Afro-Mullets: Disgustingly Silly or a Trend Whose Time Has Come?"

If not for us weird people, how would the normal ones know who they are?

Lessee . . .. I frequently say the word "nostrils" for no apparent reason.
I belch the names of current and former Presidents.
I refer to my students as "squirmly little yuppie larva".
and I randomly read street and highway signs backwards while driving.

"Dallas Zoo", for instance, becomes "Ooz Sallad".

Yes.
Of course, whenever the observation is openly made, I always respond with, "I can't believe you've actually known me all this time, and it's taken you that long to figure that out."

Naturally, they typically reply, "Well, I always did know, I just didn't want to say anything."
To which I reply, "Well, you should've said something sooner; I was starting to wonder about you."

Better stop for that POTS sign!

I do that sometimes.  Say things backwards.
One day several years ago, my buddy Chris and I drove by a Walgreens store.
Say it backwards.
Sneerglaw!  (Ewww!)   :teddyr:
Ever since then, we always call it that.

Same goes for Burger King.
To us, it's Regrub Gnik.

I remember one time when we were driving around deciding on where to eat and we had a 3rd friend with us.  Chris suggested, "Regrub Gnik".
The 3rd friend said, "Huh??"
Then we had to explain to him what it meant.

So yeah, I'm a little weird sometimes.

Yes they do and like RC does, I wear it as a badge of honour.  :teddyr: I wouldn't say weird really, more like different to the rest.

Adults think I'm a little weird (I think they see a madness in my eyes) but children think I am quite cool, even for an old guy of 41, going on 42.

As with the other friends here, I feel quite at home on this site ~ my underpants status aside, of course. :buggedout:

I don't really care - as long as my family tolerates me, that's all that matters.

What is "normal" anyway?  I don't think I'd want to be that.  Good grief, I'm normal enough - wife, 3 kids, job, house, blah blah blah.  If this stuff doesn't result in some minor insanity, then you're not really alive.

I think everybody thinks what could be called "weird" thoughts. Some people are maybe afraid of them though and do what they can to stifle those thoughts, or at least don't admit to them. Some people, like me, seem to lack an internal editor or at least have one that's asleep on the job and I end up saying some of the weird thoughts others may only think. I don't care, I just wish I could finid a way to make it pay$$$$$.

I'm weird and I don't care. I'm friendly and their friendly back with the "underbelly" of the population:Homeless, punks, felonys etc. Don't get along with what people consider"normal" because in the end they are the crazies.

Was that a crazy statement? :teddyr:

*I* think I'm fine and most other people are weird!  but other people tend to think the opposite once they get to know me.  I think it has a lot to do with my personality not matching my appearance, I'm very feminine and I look and sound younger than I am and I'm really quiet and shy, but I like manly things like meat and lumber and beards and toilets and the things that go in them, I listen to old country and metal, I watch gorey horror and fantasy movies, I kind of overdo the toilet humor thing, and play RPGs and board games - which isn't weird for a 38 year old man from Alabama named PuddinPop.

But unlike most, I do care that people think I'm weird.. I have a really tough time making friends mostly because I've had too many situations where I've tried being more outgoing and just got ganged up by people who told me I was demented or gross.  So now I'm socially retarded, I have 2 friends that live in different states, and 1 husband, but you need 4 people to play Pictionary!  :bluesad:

I really don't care if people think I'm weird, I think the weirdness that we each possess is what makes us individuals and that this weirdness makes us interesting as individual people.
I like to think this is what the composer of this piece had in mind.

Then, about ten years ago, I started going to support groups...
And I learned what it really meant. :buggedout:

I'd look around, & I'd really feel out of place. :bluesad:

I have been hanging out with folks in the SCA.  I love them, but when I open my mouth, they all stop and give me odd looks.  I ignore it, because one guy loves to show off the lightsaber app on his iPhone. All of them can quote the Marvel Universe, chapter and verse. One of them has EVERY existing episode of Doctor Who on DVD.  I'm just a different spin on weird in this community.

Outside of this group and this board, people just think I'm joking when I talk about my passions.  I let them think what they want.

I have a woman in my life who loves every molecule of my being, and nothing I do or say or show her makes her think I'm weird. Hers is the only opinion that counts.

But, yeah, I'm weird.   And I love me just the way I am.

Yes they do but I don't give a damn anymore and haven't for years either. Now granted I look fairly normal but whenever I get into a conversation with anyone, it's hard for me to relate to the latest fads or trends which I just don't care about either. Most people don't understand or cannot fathom my interests in old black and white movies, old black and white TV shows or TV shows from the 60s and 70s, Godzilla films, monster movies, classic pro wrestling, 80s punk rock or cartoons from the 80s and before (love animation). They'll mention the latest popular movie which most often I haven't seen and don't care about or the latest entertainment item on the news (I loathe Entertainment shows with a passion) and I'll just nod or shake my head. My girlfriend is wonderful and very supportive of me and doesn't deny me pursuing my interests but often it's hard to find some common ground although we do seem to share an interest in classic romance, musicals and certain terrific film classics. I actually got her to watch TEENAGER FROM OUTER SPACE with me and she actually liked it. Now if only I could get her interested in Godzilla. Sigh.

I don't think people think I'm weird. Well, maybe the people who know me.

I think Derf summed it up for the way I feel most days. The difference is I am deadly dull to people I don't have an interest in, which is most people. They have no idea I may be weird because, well, I give them nothing. I'm just some random nondescript person. That's one of the fun things about being quiet, people assume all sorts of things.

I am pretty weird, but then again everybody is normal until you get to know them. I'm also kind of a jerk. I'm polite, but only because I have to be.

So, I'm a nobody to most people. But then you meet people you really enjoy talking with and spending time with, and then you can let your freak flag fly. Why not? They're in the same boat as you.

Truthfully, it has long stopped being an issue. The idea of normality is an illusion; I can't imagine living my life to appease what's popular. I find friends, the rest can go hang.

That's one of those things. Whenever I hear anybody use the word "weird" as a negative, I know we aren't ever going to be on the same page. It's worse than somebody telling me they don't read books. Why would you talk to somebody who doesn't read? Why would you talk to somebody who thinks weird is a negative?

Well, let's put it this way: almost all of my friends' parents have banned them from talking to me.

I'm not some kinda creeper, I'm just weird, I suppose. Perhaps it's that I'm living in the Bible Belt and they don't approve of my (lack of) religion, my black clothes and hair dye, my dad's hearse, or my love of death metal. Even putting the givens aside I am still just a little odd.

I know I'm not weird, but I also know that other people see me in an odd way. I don't dress in a way that attracts attention, I'm short (5'-7'), skinny, and walk a little odd, a quiet talker, basically an average looking guy. No major quirks to speak of.

I seem to attract strangers from a different segment of society though. Mostly people from the drug culture, and people with troubles and problems. I guess they see me as a confessor or confidante. Sometimes it's scary because I carry around other's troubles with me. But it's amusing too. I'm very color blind and didn't know it until I was in my 20's, and I think it's a lot like that in that it's something that I couldn't define, but maybe other people could. I think it has made me reluctant to be around people, but that makes things worse because it attracts even weirder, scarier people.

Maybe I'm weird by association?!

People think I'm weird when I say I watch bad movies, prime examples include my dad and a couple of my classmates.  They question why I would actually want to spend time watching something horrible, like Monster A Go-Go, when there are so much better movies out there.

Im guessing people think im weird because i feel like I never respond the way they expect when engaged in conversation. Sometimes they just look at me like...uh...ok,except around my friends and family, but thats because they know me. My friends are pretty out there too, and yes, we all enjoy bad movies. The other night at work, someone asked me if I wanted half of their sandwich, i simply replied, no thanks... and there was like this weird vibe in the air, like as if I said something mean...i dunno its probably all in my head. :twirl:

:bluesad: people that i thought were my friends, are really not. ive recently found out about how some of my friends talk about how they think i'm weird... now i feel uncomfortable around them because i dont know how to act now. i feel like no matter what i do now, i will seem "weird". i've never thought i was weird or thought that anyone else thought that about me. so what do I do? am i actually weird and just not realizing it? i need advice. Because high school's a b***h.

They could be the ones that are weird! High Schools a vicious, cruel and backstabbing.

First of all if they are your friends they will not say anything behind your back that they wouldn't say to your face. However, if they talk about you behind your back they're not really your friends at all, life is far to short to worry about what people think, the only person that has to like you is you. IF you are happy with yourself I don't see that there is a problem. Beside we're weird in our own way is the same as being unique ... it just doesn't sound as good.

The thing is don't worry about them, there are to many people in the world to go around worrying about who likes you and who doesn't, you have to adopt a positive self images that says if they don't like you it's their loss not yours.

Title: Sylvia Plath - Metaphors
Post by: Allhallowsday on March 06, 2009, 01:02:15 AM

I'm a riddle in nine syllables,
An elephant, a ponderous house,
A melon strolling on two tendrils.
O red fruit, ivory, fine timbers!
This loaf's big with its yeasty rising.
Money's new-minted in this fat purse.
I'm a means, a stage, a cow in calf.
I've eaten a bag of green apples,
Boarded the train there's no getting off.

I think I am weird, but it takes other people a while to realise that (I must hide it well). People I have known for several years have been a little surprised at some of the things I have done lately.

I get called random a lot too, plus at least three times a day, someone at work will state of me that "he's gone"

Well, if you are saying that this applies to you in any way, shape, or form, you are indeed either very weird or you're not the man you claim to be  :tongueout:.

I never made any such claim.  And I don't doubt CHEEZE would back me up.
