With the Beatles recordings soon to become public domain, "interested parties" appear to be lobbying to have the terms extended to 95 years. 50 years is a quite reasonable copyright term, allowing the artist/creator to profit from the work during his lifetime. After 50 years, the copyright only benefits the estate or the music publisher.
