Title: What's on your walls?
Post by: BTM on February 15, 2009, 09:56:58 AM
What do you guys have on your walls?  I know for most of you married guys, the wife probably does most of the decorating and you're regulated to a single room to decorate how you want (if that) but for the rest, I'm curious what type of stuff you've got up there.

To be honest, most of MY walls are pretty bare.  You see, I don't have a printer, so I can't print out and hang up cool pictures I find online, and I don't often have extra cash to get posters or any decorations.  I do have a few things though, I have some frames with photos of relatives hanging up here and there.  Got my diploma from college (for the all good it's been doing me in my current job hunts), a calender and a Chuck Norris Fact List poster I bought several months back at Wal-Mart.

That's about it really... would like to put up more stuff just to brighten the place up a bit, but like I said, money's tight, and stuff I can find at thrift shops and whatnot isn't really my taste (don't really care for putting up pictures of landscapes, flowers, eagles, or what have you.)

Would like to put up more pictures though.  I've gotten several photos printed out at Wal-Mart of my nieces and nephews and whatnot, but frames are a bit expensive as well.  I did buy a few of the cheap kind at first, but I realize WHY they were so cheap when one fell off the fall and broke in such a way that I couldn't put the pictures back in.

So, that's my (scant) decorations.  How about you guys?

Livin' Room; A black & white canvas print of a Miami beach seaview, a black & white framed picture of the old New York skyline on the opposite wall, framed W.A.S.P. album [signed by Blackie Lawless  :teddyr:], some W.A.S.P. tour scarves from 1984, an old 80's artsy picture of a cat on a purple sofa and a blue & silver clock.

Bedroom; A large canvas of the "Welcom To Las Vegas" sign, some dreamcatchers over my bed, a Helloween poster, Near Dark poster.

I'll take some pictures later to show y'all......if I can be bothered  :tongueout:

Actually,my wall art is pretty conservative...I have two oil paintings done by Tara Sue....one is of the parting of the red sea and another of coal miners. She was a dam good oil painter. I have an old print (1950's?) of a monkey wearing a Shriners fez smoking a corn cobb pipe, sitting in a chair watching an old tv with monkey chorus girls on the tv screen...his dog is holding his leash in his mouth begging to go for a walk. It's signed'Lawson Wood'. A small round painting of a bird...pretty old. An antique childrens chalkboard. A picture of my sons Jed and Eddie. A wood letter holder with a small bronze eagle on it. A nother small wooden letter holder with a silver cross on it. A wood plaque with a bottle opener on it and a drawing of a booze bottle and an inscription-"I've drunk to your health in taverns,I've drunk to your health in my home,I've drunk to your health so many dam times,I've almost ruined my own! I''s says below that in small letters Civil War Wax Muesuem,Gettysburg,PA. It looks kinda old.
That's it. Oh...except for the Alfred E. Nueman for President poster on the bathroom door.

I only have one room, but I do have it...er...somewhat decorated.

Aside from the ugliest damn wallpaper, I mostly have art prints that I got pretty cheap. Most of what I got was 90% off.

Most of my prints are of European scenes or Cafes.

Those are thumbnails; click on them for larger versions.

Yes, that corner shelf does have some throwbacks to the 1970s with the CB jargon glass, stripper glasses, and the diecast muscle cars.

I'm married but I do have some say what's on the walls in my home. Along with the usual fare of family pics and such, I got swords on displays hanging up.

The wife has my house plastered with pictures of my our family which I'm ok with on concept.  However its on complete overkill.  Everywhere you look...THERE WE ARE! Go around a corner and THERE WE ARE!  Its starting to give me paranoia quite frankly...all those eyes watching me.... :buggedout:

Shes also into cross stitch so theres a few of them (mostly beach scenes) in the house too.

My son's room has a bunch of his little craft projects he does at the library after story time.  He's so proud of himself which is cute.

Back home, my "room" was plastered with action figures and posters of chicks/movies.  I had a nice one of Jenny McCarthy amongst a few others on my ceiling.

I have two pictures I won at a carnival of Homer Simpson and Spongebob.  I have a King Kong, the Video Game Poster and one of Lost Planet.  I also have a crucifix above my headest on the wall.   Otherwise, that's pretty much it.

I have a large mural of a dragon holding a sceptre and orb on one wall of our den, it was painted by our daughter. The rest of the house is pretty normal, pictures, paintings etc.

Let's see - here above my PC upstairs I have my Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Calendar, and three maps - one of Vardenfell, one of Cyrodiil, and one of the Shivering Isles (Elder Scrolls fans will know what I am talking about).  Downstairs in my hobby room - wall to wall arrowheads!!  Over 100 frames mounted on my wall!  Plus a big cypress clock with artifacts glued to it.

Mostly bare except for an acrylic painting that looks like a gothic romance cover, an oil painting of a paddle boat done my my mom, and cool postcards of fairies. Sadly, my walls are practically impervious to thumbtacks, so I don't see them getting much more decorated.

We don't have anything on our walls. In every room, most wall space is taken up with floor to ceiling bookcases. The only place we have something adorning the wall is above the bed, where we have a huge tiger rug hanging (yes, the rug is on the wall and not the floor).

I live in a suite on campus with a couple other guys...my side of my room within the suite is bare, because tape doesn't stick to these walls.  The rooms are supposed to have little strips of cork-board running up near the ceiling, but on my side of the room that cork-board has been broken off... :bluesad:

So most of our decor is in the common area of our suite:

The movie posters and Creature from the Black Lagoon pic are mine, the rest belong to my friend Dennis.  I think we're the only people on campus with a real periodic table of elements, as opposed to the tacky "periodic table of mixed drinks" or "periodic table of sexual positions" ones.

You should get these framed !

Then they'd look really cool.

Depends on the room. The living room has some nice framed artwork, including some artsy B&W photos I took a few years ago. Ro's corner of the rec room has space to hang a bunch of her artwork, as well as a large whiteboard I put up for her. And a lot of the house has a mix of family photos and pictures that basically look nice.

What you guys would find most interesting would be the computer room/office, where I have framed computer ads from the 80s, featuring Shatner (VIC-20), Bill Cosby (TI) and Isaac Asimov (TRS-80). I also have a few of my best news photos framed (accidents, fires, funnel cloud), and a framed photo of my dad as chief of police in my hometown, circa 1970. I always liked that shot. He's sitting at his desk with the town's five officers and his secretary standing around him. He'd be about the age I am now. The office also has the big bookcases, covering most of one wall.

The rec room is pretty much movie themed. The racks of tapes, DVDs and CDs dominate one side, and the walls include plaque-mounted one-sheets of Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Gone with the Wind, along with a sort of boxed arrangement of film reels I put together a few years ago, and framed movie stills with the likes of Jimmy Stewart, Sean Connery, Donald Sutherland and Don Knotts.

Wow... who picked out the wall coloring?

Oh, true story: they did an experiment with a bunch of weight lifters where they put them in a room where the walls were all colored pink, and, for some reason, they found the lifters couldn't seem to lift as much as they'd normally do.

But then there was the experiment where it had a calming effect on inmates, so it's all good. Looks like a cozy place to curl up in front of the cactus with a bottle of booze. :teddyr:

The opposite corner of the room is a complete, almost complete, contrast to the artwork. Though it is mostly a shelf with my computer books, shortwave equipment, lavalamp, and (my pride and joy) pyramid energy kits; on the wall, I have my Zombie clock, Leatherface figure and Mole Man figure. They just all fit so well together. :teddyr:

Ah, I had forgotten to mention the vintage toys and action figures I used as accents on my movie shelves for a while. Gave up on that when the kid got old enough to appropriate them. It's not uncommon for her to be making up some little pretend game that includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, Davey and Goliath and a Cylon Centurion, along with whatever My Little Ponies and whatnot she happens to be playing with. I'd take them back, but it just makes me too darn proud seeing her walking Arnie around on the carpet.

You need to add a Leatherface doll to the collection. Nothing says joy like chainsawing off Arny's head. :drink:

Actually, I have more than paint on my walls.
It isn't much, but here's what I have...

A Daniel Kime framed print.
At my old building, I went down to the basement to throw some trash out and someone had thrown this print out.  They'd left it leaning against the garbage bin.  I thought it looked cool so I took it.
http://www.danielkimeart.com/
It's on the wall above my couch.
(http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/1621/wallzi1.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)

I also have this metal Kamel Cigarettes sign:
Several people have offered to buy it from me over the years.
It's showing its age.  It used to be white.  Now it's a shade of yellow.  Probably from my cigar smoke.
(http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/2774/camelis8.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)

And near the top of the stairs, I have this small print I got from Blockbuster for 50 cents.
(http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/3760/hatsxl6.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)

About that Kime print...
I'll give 5 karma to the first person who can tell me the name of that painting and provide a link to verify it.
I've searched all over the internet and can't seem to find it.
And Kime's gallery on his site isn't working so I can't look there, either.

Among other less interesting things we have:
- Dumb Wizard Fighting Dragon posters
- Unicorn posters (I can’t help myself)
- Christopher Lee signed LOTR poster
- Framed Mr.T poster
- Framed poster of Santa Claus my husband made for me from a Giant gift bag!
- Ornately framed photo of a lil raccoon
- My husband has weapon replicas here and there
- 2 velvet unicorn pictures my husband displays with pride because he thinks its great that I had one and he had one before we started dating
- NO family photos.. I feel weird putting pictures of myself on the walls and told my husband if he loves us he would do it and he hasn’t  :bluesad:
- Glittery pink walls in the bathroom
- Oh yeah.. and .. BLOOD!!!!

When we were 18 my roomate and I painted the walls purple n bloody and painted the ceiling tiles gold, but that's kind of hard to see.

Right now, there aren't many exciting things on my walls.  Just the usual middle-class married couple stuff.  However, we lived in a different house 4 years ago and I had a finished basement with pictures of The Sopranos, The Rat Pack, The Godfather and stuff like that on the walls.  I had a small bar and 2 pub tables set up, along with my TV and surround sound system.  I even had red lights in the ceiling to give it a cocktail lounge atmosphere.  I have a better bar in my new house, but it's upstairs in the family room and I don't have anything fun hanging on the walls.

If the economy ever gets better, I'd like to build a game room in my attic.  I have a nice walk-up attic that's big enough for a regulation size pool table, a bar, a TV, maybe a dart board.  I'll certainly put some cool things on the walls if I ever build that room.

Um, in the "office" there's a bulletin board covered with random stuff, a framed Iron Giant poster, a Monsters, Inc. poster, a miniature Charlie and the Chocolate Factory poster, some local newsletter article that my wife has written, a Steak 'n' Shake menu that I drew on.  Bedroom has a paiting made by my sister-in-law (looks like Tahiti or someplace) a Romeo & Juliet poster (the Baz Luhrman one), and the walls are a purple color.  Living room has a mirror and a picture frame with numerous small black and white photos we've taken, dining room has a mirror and a couple of sconces.  The spare room is where we keep our movies and CDs and other stuff, and we've got a framed Walk the Line teaser poster, a mini Juno poster, and that's about it.

I need to get some more poster frames 'cause I want to hang my Kill Bill teaser and original one-sheets of The Thing and Something Wicked This Way Comes.
