Title: The Mysterians (1959)
Post by: lester1/2jr on February 21, 2009, 09:54:17 AM
Those looking for an instumental version of "96 tears" will be dissapointed but this is a good early sci fi movie with a good amount of funky costumes and special effects as well as a strong message against imperialism.  After a largely gratuitus godzilla like rampage  by an apparently robotic supermonster we meet the Mysterians, a spaceman costume clad bunch of aliens who have a succinct list of demands they offer in exchange for their obviously superior scientific knowledge.  What I liked abuot this movie was that no one, save one obvious traitor, for onesecond even considers accepting this more or less reasonable offer.  Instead they corral all the countries in the world to destory it.  Is this is mtaphor for , say, radical islam?  or american hegemonic aims?  I guess that's for the viewer to decide but it seems crystal clear to me.  in letterbox format with recent dubbing.  extras include trailers for other relatively obscure toho-vision films le "Guppa, the triphibian monster"  and "Varan"
