Title: 2 movies from my youth
Post by: filmfestivalbob on March 09, 2009, 01:34:04 AM
Brand new to the site, and already I have 2 films to ask about when I saw this forum.

1) A film about a bunch of college-age friends who visit, I think, the American Museum of Natural History in NYC...and for some reason...go back to dinosaur days.
Being a dinosaur nut, this of course thrilled me.   I saw this film in a theater in the late 60s.

2) Being at a friend's house in the mid 70s, my color-TV craving eye (my family didn't get one until 1978) naturally strayed at the heavenly console there at his house.   It was an afternoon showing by NYC's WOR-TV (Channel 9) of some British spooky film of then-recent years (like something from the 1967-1973 era), and though it was a normal pleasant spring/summer afternoon outside, I was frikkin' spooked by a moment in this film.
Someone's in a house, and a ball is bouncing down the stairs that I think they reacted to.   Book-ending the shots of the bouncing ball, are glimpses of a creepy person/kid moaning outside some opaque glass.  First a good part of their body is seen...then in the subsequent shot, that person/kid has draped to the bottom of that opaque glass....still looking in with their hand on it...and a moaning sound continues.

Talk about images staying with you.

This is undoubtedly wrong if you are certain of your dates, but for the second, a possible fit would be 1980's The Changeling (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080516/), which featured a bouncing ball coming down some stairs. I'm sure it's not the only movie to have ever used this, but you might at least read the IMDB description to completely rule it out.

Welcome aboard, and I am pretty sure that I know your first film.  "Journey to Prehistory" (1955) aka "Journey to the Beginning of Time" - it's one that I would love to see released on DVD.

im going to go with "A Blade in the Dark" for the second one.  its not British though its Italian.

i had recently saw a youtube video of this 80's movie with these kids who kill a t-rex with, from what i can remember was a laser beam. i know this adds another "What was that film" haha but maybe someone else can shed some light on that one as well.

I believe the movie in question is My Science Project, but the youtube clips were removed by violation of terms whatever so I couldn't check.  I seem to recall the T. Rex getting blasted by light from the gizmo, sending it back in time (?) if not destroying it completely.  It's been a long time since I've seen it.

I vcan see why it would be thought to be BLADE in the DARK....but that did not get the distrubution of KILL BABY KILL (aka) CURSE of the LIVING DEAD.

And Andrew already confirmed what I already knew about the Dino flik.

Thanks for the info.    Though the YouTube clip didn't show what I remembered, I'll know it as soon as I see it, and with your confident votes for KILL BABY KILL, I'll look for that.    (Yeah, in response to the person who said THE CHANGELING, I know my dates.  I watched this film on TV in the early-mid 70s, way before that 1980 film.)
As for JOURNEY TO THE BEGINNING OF TIME...that sure as s**t seems right to me.
I now recall that title.

Seeing how incredibly useful this site is, I'll come up with another one in the subject line.   Distant film memories from the past need not be forgotten, it seems!   You're all Sherlock Holmeses!
