Title: Valley of the Bees (1967)
Post by: lester1/2jr on March 17, 2009, 09:30:53 AM
It's been a long time since I saw "the virgin spring" but that's what this reminded me of:  high quality middle ages, in black and white, with the accent on the dark rough way of life rather than on pageantry or sword fighting or something.  and in letterbox format.  not exactly "legally blonde" here.

The director is really merciless in portraying the rawness of medieval life sometimes shockingly so.  If you can get into stuff like the afformentioned Bergman film, "the name of the rose"  or "Andrei Rublev"  you won't want to miss this.  plot follows a young boy from his village to a Templars type religious order where he grows up but then becomes dissillusioned with his existence there.

in this scene, the boy gives a gag gift to his new mother, who is about 12, the same age he appears to be.  It doesn't go over well to say the least.
