Title: Food You've Grown To Dislike
Post by: Mr. DS on March 28, 2009, 04:40:59 PM
Are there certain foods you can hardly stomach because you've eaten too much of it?   My two big ones that shock people are pizza and hot dogs.

When I first started dating my wife, we went out for pizza constantly.  Pretty much every weekend we'd order something from Domino's, Papa Ginos, etc. After ten years of this, I simply hate pizza now.  I can't stand the smell, the taste and sometimes even the sight!  I had some tonight after a 6 month lapse and feel a bit sick to my stomach.

Secondly the hot dog thing.  When I was a kid I used to eat hot dogs pretty much every day.  Some time around puberty I stopped.   Now I can't stand the taste of them no matter how much condiments I put on them.

So how about you?  Are there certain things your pallet is done with?

Hamburgers, , I F-ing hate them. I ate them WAY too much when I was in the Army and eating out of the mess hall, because they were fast and I hate standing in lines. We have them for lunch at work way too much, and they're very bland. I buy lean ground beef because it's better for you, but it makes burgers that suck. No matter what, the best burger I can find is just good enough I'll eat it instead of going hungry, usually I'll go without. Every once in a while I make one just because it's easy and apparently I have a very short memory, and after the first bite, I remember why I don't have them more often.

Another one is spaghetti. I've had it so F-ing much that I just can't stand it any more. It's just so boring. .

Chicken is one. I've eaten so much of it that I hate to see it in the store even.
Pizza is also getting there because I'm finding it harder to keep it down these days. Apparently as I get older, greasy foods don't agree with me.
Pintos and Rice with Smoked Sausage. My wife loves it and I cook it at least once a week but I am sick of it.

chicken and broccoli covered in cheese.  it's true that it makes the brocolli easier to eat but something about it is so bland and rest home- ey it just makes me depressed to eat it.

not a food exactly but Diet Coke provides no refreshment for me anymore.  I'll stick with the regular and be a big fatso

Green beans.
Green beans are the bane of humanity in my opinion. I've felt that way for over 15 years now. Why? Cause I was really broke years ago and all I had to eat for about a month was a couple of cases of green beans I got from a local food bank. I picked up condiment packs from various restaurants in a effort to change the taste after a while. When I finally got where I could buy food, I swore I would never eat them again.

Last job I had, left me too exhausted at the end of the day to go shopping, & I'd crash right there & sleep right through my alarm clock the following day.

Constantly running late, I didn't have time to fix a proper sandwich, so I'd just grab a banana on my way out.
Every day for five years.

I can no longer stand bananas.

I've pretty much grown immune to the appeal of all sugary confections. When you're a kid, candy is like an all-consuming quest. Just over every corner is that Wonka factory of wonder.

Nowadays, I pretty much ignore sugar in most of its forms. Don't get me wrong, I like the taste of chocolately creations as much as the next person, but I'm done after one bite. I just don't feel the need for more. Heck, I requested my parents stop making me cakes for my birthday sometime when I was a teen because I just didn't enjoy them. (They still made them for the birthday guests.)

Before you say my health benefits from my aversion to sugar, I think I should say I am a big fan of salt and fat. I can't really picture a scenario where I would turn down hot wings.

Chicken.  My wife loves the stuff.  It has no flavor.  If you put spices and stuff on it, it tastes like a thin skin of spices on a tasteless mass.  I like Kentucky Fried Chicken, of course we never go there.  Makes sense, wife loves chicken but we never go to KFC.  Nope, we get rotisserie chicken, the epitome of thin skin of spice on a dry, tasteless mass. Or oriental chicken, which is just a tasteless mass covered in sweet goop.

We made some chicken breasts in the oven the other day, so she could try out some new dipping sauce.  The baking pan we used is a complete loss.  I scrubbed it, scrubbed it again, soaked it overnight, scrubbed it again.  There's still tiny bits of chicken on it.  Worse than epoxy.

You have my sincerest condolances. I love cake, chocolate, biscuits and the like.

On the other hand, I can no longer eat mushrooms, as I was sick due to excessive consumption of them when younger.

White pasta: I do not like white pasta anymore.  After eating whole wheat pasta for the first time last year, I couldn't go back.  It doesn't taste good any more.

MOST sodas I cannot stand anymore (coke and pepsi based products).  I usually have a sugar free Jolt now and then because it was uses Splenda as sweetner.  I do also enjoy the Jones Soda company products but not so much as before.

Pierogies.

I'm part Polish. I come from a hometown that's predominantly Polish. When I was a kid, I went to Catholic school. That meant no meat on Fridays, year round. As if eating pierogies on a regular basis to my family being so, like, ACTIVELY Polish wasn't enough, we had 'em for lunch pretty much every Friday of ever week of my life from first grade until eighth grade (which is when I finally started going to public school). I used to like 'em. Now? Blech. Much too much. I haven't eaten a pierogie since childhood.

Also, Lunchables pizza and any kind of grape juice or grape Kool-Aid or whatever. Again, almost entirely because of overdosing on both these things in my childhood lunchrooms.

Half polish myself.  I never got into Pierogies much.  Then again, 99% of the Polish food I didn't like.  I ate a lot of kielbasa as a kid and I don't really like it much now.

I'm reading everybody's expecting to post ASPARAGUS all alone, and there it is!  I hate ass-paraguts!!!

Yeh, well I'd get sick of that so-called pizza too, ...right quick.

My stepmother was a polack...and we ate pierogies, glumpkies (did I spell that right?-stuffed cabbage),kielbasa, saurkraut and pork...I still love 'em. Comfort foods,I guess. Been a looooong time since I had some home-made Polish food...(sigh).

I quit drinking soda a couple of years ago and haven't looked back. I don't miss it a bit, but I do buy some when I am on a drive and it's late, just in case I get tired: Better to drink some soda than to wreck my car. That crap isn't so bad when you're a kid, but I don't think the adult body is made for drinking soda on a regular basis.
