Title: Marketing Tactics for the Actor?
Post by: Filmster on April 01, 2009, 06:22:42 PM
When an actor already has an agent.. /manager/ etc and has an impressive resume...how does an actor stand out amongst the rest and have a better chance to jump to series regular status? I see a lot of books out their geared towards How to get an Agent..How to Interview..but no books meant for the people who are in the door already and trying to climb.

I think the best Marketing tactic would just to be in as much stuff as possible. Whether it pays or not... the more stuff you are in the greater chance someone will see you. Don't get stuck in a project that goes nowhere but a lot of time it really is who you meet.

I couldn't have put it better myself -- And do things even if they're free.  I cannot count the number of times I've gotten a paying gig because I was willing to do a part gratis in some podunk stage production that happened to have a paying producer in the audience.

And, oh, I forgot to mention what NOT to do -- Never give money to anyone up front who claims they can get you "exposure" or work.  Pay them a percentage of whatever they can get you for real AFTER you get paid.  Never pay anyone for putting you in a catalogue -- producers do not read those catalogues & typically pitch them into the trash.  Do invest in some good headshots & resumes & update them frequently.  Don't pay for posters or billboards or to be in a magazine.  Nobody looks at these.
