It's a miracle he's lived this long.

God deals a particularly twisted hand to certain individuals on this planet, for sure

Since his lack of growth was due to a pituitary defect he's basically an old fashioned 'midget', like the people who played the Munchkins in THE WIZARD OF OZ and Hans and Freida in FREAKS. These people were extremely short but normally proportioned, in contrast to 'dwarfs' who have normal sized heads but short limbs. Midgets also tended to have normal life spans, since they didn't have the skeletal and other medical problems of dwarfs.

Since the condition is easily treatable these days with hormones it is extremely rare to find someone with this type of dwarfism. It's probably too late to treat this guy since he's an adult.

It's amazing what you can learn watching The Discovery Channel!

I never really took note of the difference between Dwarfs and Midgets until I saw a picture of "KISS lite", a KISS tribute band made up of 2 Dwarfs and 2 Midgets. They were all very close in overall height, but the beltline of two of them were nearly a foot higher than the other two. In other words, despite being very close in height, two of them had legs that were nearly a foot longer than the other two's.

I had no idea that there was a difference between dwarves and midgets until I read this thread.   :buggedout:

Maybe Andrew could, in addition to the "Things I've learned by watching B-Movies" t-shirts, make a "Things I learned in the Badmovies.org forums" t-shirt. This could be the first comment.

I bet DarkSider is laughing too much even to be able to post on this thread.  :bouncegiggle:

I've heard little people (most generic term I know of) argue that there really isn't - that the term midget was in fact invented by circus people, and should be considered the equivalent of a racial slur.  They say there is proportionate dwarfism (what most people consider to be midgets) and disproportionate dwarfism.  The former can sometimes be treated with hormones, the latter (depending on the cause) often not.

The More You Know (TM).

My question about this article here is if this 26 year old man is psychologically adult, and if so why his parents still dress him like a baby.
