Im afraid I completely and utterly disagree with your (suspiciously) bitter review of Crank 2.

In my opinion it was openly psychotic, even from the trailers, and if you went in expecting substance and artistic film making then you sadly misunderstood the premise. It is fast, lurid, over the top, fun filled action hysteria at its finest, and is easily the most fun ive had at the cinema this year.

If you loved the first crank, as many did, I suggest you see it, if anything it is well worth the money - as long as you know what youre letting yourself in for.

I did like the reference to Tetsuo.  I didn't really think about that til now, but it makes some sense.  Tetsuo has much more craft and skill put into it than Crank 2 though.

Quote
CRANK: HIGH VOLTAGE is just trash hidden behind loud noises and wiz-bang editing

Swap out "hidden behind" with "presented with" and I think you'd have the right idea.  It's a trashy gonzo type movie, the sort of film Troma would make, only with a way bigger budget and a large theatrical distribution.  For better or for worse.

I was entertained.

What about my review do you find suspicious [or potentially so]?  I watched the movie - didn't enjoy it - listed my reasons why.  I wasn't expecting anything of substance or approaching art and was underwhelmed just the same.  I was actually expecting just what you described, and felt that the film failed to deliver.

If you disagree, great.  It's good to have personal opinions that differ from those of others [and critics, in particular, many of whom I disagree with myself in this case].

I was entertained.

Most of my friends, in stark contrast to myself, loved it - they were still talking about how awesome it was when I saw them again this evening.  To each their own.

Had a few more thoughts, thought I'd drop in again.

I had a friend who loved it as well, but I wouldn't go that far.  My friend said it was the film Shoot 'Em Up wished it was.  I find that to be untrue, as both are extremely over the top action films, but Shoot 'Em Up obviously had far more time put into it - for the most part, you can tell Shoot 'Em Up had a lot of love put into its numerous action scenes and some thought put into its writing.  I was actually a bit underwhelmed with Shoot 'Em Up after hearing it praised so much, but I can still appreciate what it does.  Crank 2 feels like a film that was made up as they went, and its action scenes reflect this, without much excitement behind them beyond what its gonzo, crazed and admittedly fairly unique style generates.  I also agree it is a weaker film than the original.

It's the kind of film that I can totally understand why people wouldn't like, and personally I doubt I'll ever watch it again.  But, I did find it entertaining enough to be worth the watch.

It's strange - I quite enjoyed Shoot 'Em Up and the similarities are certainly there, but the way Crank 2 was handled just didn't jive with me.  I'm still amused at how many angry emails I've received due to the 700 or so words I published about it, all saying pretty much the same thing - to politely paraphrase, that I'm imbecile for not thinking it was the best movie ever.

At any rate, I like what you've had to say about it - would you mind if I appended my review to include your comments?

Kindest regards,

No, not at all!  I'm glad you find my opinion worthy of such treatment.

Must be nice to get hate mail--it means people are reading, and you're doing your job of stating your opinion honestly.  Congrats!
