Title: Nostalgia Critic gets shocked with Short Circuit 1 and 2
Post by: InformationGeek on May 13, 2009, 04:19:29 PM
I have never heard of any of these movies until he brought them up.  I don't think I really missed anything, but I wouldn't mind watching one of them in the future.  So, check out the double flick review.

I do live on Earth, however, the movies were before my time so that was one of the reasons I never heard of them.  My parents didn't like them, a lot of the child daycare services I attended never had the film, and I have never run across them in video rental stories, so that's pretty much why I had never heard of them before.  Hope that explained it.

On the case of North, an upcoming review by him, most of the same reasons apply outside of my parents and before my time.

I'm only 21 these films are before my time too...but they're shown on the telly all the time !
I'm sorry if I came across a bit bullish.
We can still be friends, right ?

If you're talking about the film "North" that Rob Reiner directed, you probably didn't hear about it because it sucked. From Wikipedia:

Budget    $40,000,000 (estimated)
Gross revenue    $7,138,449 (USA)

Suckage of monumental proportions.

This one was and still is a guilty pleasure of mine.  Granted I can't watch it today with the delight I had as a kid.  If you're looking at the era, Johnny 5 fits into the cutesy 80s theme of "non-human object with a great personality" type of character.

NC had it right about the beating in part 2.  Its actually a bit heart wrenching seeing J5 getting the sh*t kicked out of him.  Luckily by it's release I was a bit older.  If I was a kid, it would have scarred me.  I got sick of part 2 due to it being on HBO every damn minute back in the day.

HOY CRAP! I just realized something.
I just came from the "100 Fake Scii-Fi" thread on the bad movies forum.  There's a firestorm going on about whether or not Star Wars is actually sci-fi or just a fantasy film with super technology.

But these films ARE true science fiction!  Dealing with big issues of artificial intelligence.
"What is life"
"Can we create life in our own image out of metal and circuitry"
"Should that life have the same rights we give to organic life"

Star Wars is not science fiction but Short Circut makes great science fiction.

Everything has gone crazy, nothing makes sense.
Black is now White!
Up is now tuna fish on wheat!

and Lady Gaga are is now a serious musical artist instead of just eye candy that sings.
Ahah hah hah ha ha ha ha aha ha ha.

Calm down Winged Serpent, calm down...

Sorry, went a little crazy there, but I'm ok now.

I do think that is the one Nostaglia Critic is going to look into since it fits the nostalgia theme.

Great films. I was raised on films like Short Circuit, Cocoon and Batteries Not Included. I wouldn't say that these were before my time, being only 22. They were on all the time when I was growing up. I loved the first film as a kid, but since buying on DVD I found it quite annoying. The second one made me cry my eyes though, when I was younger. It was really sad when Johnny 5 got all beat in.  :bluesad:
