Title: Blood Freak (1972)
Post by: Underbelly on May 16, 2009, 10:23:34 AM
This was on TCM last night and WOW! I don;t even know how to describe this! A muscleman with who becomes a were-chicken (basically him with a bad chicken head mask on) goes around killing people!  They guy who stars in it as the Chicken dude, also co-wrote is and co-directed it. The other writer, director is the narrator who site at a desk smoking and reading his lines. You need to watch this to believe it!

I picked this up on vhs at a flea market about 13 years ago. Had heard about it from obscure bootleg catalogs...so when I saw the tape-I bought it. I watched it with my ex-brother in law Leroy and his wife Corky....man....what a film! Terrible acting, inane dialouge...and the scene where Herschall saws off the one shmucks leg with a buzz saw is a scream!!! A Z-movie classick!

Triva-Brad Grinter-the chain-smoking narrator, also made the Hitler horror film with Veronica Lake(!!!) FLESH FEAST and the cheezy biker film (also with Steven Hawkes!) DEVIL RIDER!
Hawkes also starred in a number of forgein Tarzan films!

A few years back he was interviewed on The DAILY SHOW  (dressed as Tarzan!!!)and was in the news when one of his lions at his animal shelter mauled some poor women.  :bluesad:

One of my favortie bad movies of all time.  IMO deserves to be mentioned in the same breath with PLAN 9.

I recorded this off TCM ages ago and still haven't watched it.  I promised someone here (Rev. Powell?) that I would, but I lied.  Maybe, well, maybe this week.  It sort of looks excruciating, so I'm a bit scared  :teddyr:

I agree that Blood Freak belongs in the same league as Plan 9. I've had the pleasure of seeing it twice on the big screen for the past two Thanksgiving midnights. The entire theater was buzzing with laughter the whole film. It's a great first date film because the content it SO ridiculous, all you can do is laugh. I look forward to seeing it again next Thanksgiving.

I DVR'd this off TCM  and my wife was watching it with me for a while, but she couldn't take it after a while.  I had to explain to her that bad movie watching is a task that takes a lot of stamina sometimes.

What really was the icing on the cake, after that whole thing, the chain-smoking narrator wraps it up and goes into a coughing fit. They didn't even bother to reshoot it! I fell on the floor laughing.

I still wonder if that was done on purpose.
