Title: Your first murder victim?
Post by: Trevor on June 01, 2009, 01:29:54 AM
No, not yours personally but the first murder victim you saw in a movie?

Mine was Richard Widmark in Murder On The Orient Express.  :drink:

My mom was permissive.  I was probably literally in diapers when I first saw someone murdered in a film.

Like Jim, my parents were also very permissive. I'm pretty sure it was the first death scene in Friday the 13 part 3, since that's the first horror movie I recall watching.

Hell, I have no idea.  The first one that made me feel bad and wonder what the pretty lady did to deserve it was the girl swimming at the beginning of "Dirty Harry." Before that, I probably saw dozens.  Actually, I saw one on TV that was really a movie where the guy came in through the window and dragged the woman out of the bed even though she pulled the covers up to protect herself. I don't know the movie, but that was when I realized that covers do NOT offer magical protection.  That hurt worse than finding out Santa Claus ain't real. <--sorry if anyone didn't already realize this.

My earliest memory is the first kid who goes in Friday The 13th.

The first girl that goes swimming at the start of "Jaws". Then, either uncle Frank getting all bloodsoaked in "Hellraiser" or when the Maitlands 'die' in Beetlejuice.

Wait, I think I can remember that. It was the first kill in "Friday the 13th", the camp monitor who asks somebody we can't see yet for a ride and gets offed. I was like 7 or 8 at the time.

Both my parents were school teachers, and were very strict when it came to let me watch films that had a reputation for being extremely violent, and then "Friday the 13th" had it. Still, the would let me watch the first minutes with them, and only then, if they believed the film to live up to its reputation, order me to leave the room.

As sensible as this strategy may seem, it wasn't of much help. I developed an obsession with one of those "forbidden" films, "Alien", and through an incomplete comicbook adaptation and the scary details grown-ups would agreed to tell me about, my mind created such a extreme version of the events that it would keep me awake at night for weeks. By the time I finally got to see the movie, I found it rather tame.

Not sure exactly but I suspect it was most likely from the 1976 King Kong movie that played on TV when I was a kid.

I don't know what mine would have been, besides the billions of acts on Saturday morning cartoons that surely would have resulted in death, but Star Wars was one I saw at about 7 or 8 years old, so it couldn't have been any later than that. Bonanza and the sort had, IIRC, quite a few shootings, I probably saw my first in a show like that.

Let's see...uh my first was-hehehe-can't say that without a giggle-was in one of the Child's Play films. I think it could have been the teacher he 'spanked' with a yardstick...this is just a guess though.

Too far back to remember.  I'm sure it was probably something I saw on television at a very young age . . . like in an old Universal Frankenstein or Dracula movie.

It wasn't my first murder victim, but when I was 10 I saw Murphy's death scene from "Robocop" on TV. I was in shock for days, too much blood and cruelty for me to stomach at that time.

I think it may have been in a Hitchcock film; so not 'graphic' at all but there was something in the way it was presented that hit me hard with the realization that this person is now dead and that is a really, really bad thing that somebody had to answer for.   I remember being rather stunned and distressed by it.  Life was never quite the same after that.
