Title: Plan 9 from Syracuse (2007)
Post by: lester1/2jr on June 03, 2009, 09:08:16 AM
If you reach for the stars you'll land on the moon.  How does that saying go?  I think it applies here, in the process of trying to make what looks like a fairly unremarkable vampire movie, this guy has made a compelling documentary all about trying to get funding for the project from billionaire Mark Cuban, who he has chosen for some reason.  The gimmick is he is going to run from Syracuse to Hollywood which Cuban points out is not where he lives and seemingly for this reason he never buys into the idea.

The movie opens with the director working a most sterotypical " dead end" night shift job at a factory , lifting heavy bundles of paper off a conveyer belt and loading them onto a thing and pushing them somewhere.   So it's like "He has nothing to lose". Most of the movie is the run itself and what you notice right away is this guy has a RIDICULOUS constitution.  With minimal training he runs a marathon more or less everyday and rarely whines when he is in extreme discomfort.

Is running across the country art?  Is it even interesting?  Well,  I got sucked in anyway.  Sure it's cut from the same cloth as Supersize me or even Jackass but so what?  I had watched a french drama the night before and all through  that was wishing I could have watched this instead and was delighted when I finally did!
