Title: Bad Food In Movies
Post by: Ash on June 08, 2009, 04:32:14 PM
In most movies, people eat regular and delicious food.
In others, they eat things that none of us would even think about putting in our mouths.

Like in Temple of Doom when they're served all those nasty dishes.
Such as chilled monkey brains:   :buggedout:

Can you think of any other movies where a character has to eat something particularly disgusting?

UHF- Twinkie Weiner Sandwich- In the movie UHF, Weird Al makes himself a twinkie wiener sandwich- you slice a twinkie down the middle, throw a hot dog in there (it resembles a hot dog bun), then use spray cheese to top it off.

Daryl Hannah cooking an olive and coca-cola steak in The Tie That Binds (1995). Doesn't sound too gross actually, marinating steak in cola. I would try that myself  :teddyr:

If only you could batter and deep-fry that...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

Twinkie's alone are terrible.  Cheez Whiz too.  No.

Texas Tommy's are pretty good, though.

OK, that brings to mind SALO.  Been told they actually used chocolate to represent the nasty.

I can't help but think of all those zombie and cannibal movies where it looks like they are really putting slabs of liver and strings of intestine in their mouths.  I'm hope, for their sake, it wasn't, but it still gags me a bit to watch some of those. And, yes, liver and intestine is considered food, but usually cooked first.  Even then...ick.

I know in SOME of the movies they actually are chewing on organs, I've seen a few where it looked like they were chewing on raw beef actually.  Probably not intestine though, as that could make you sick.

"Return of the Killer Tomatoes" has people eating pizza made with all kinds of weird things on them, like boysenberry jam instead of tomato sauce.

One of the restaurants my old roommate used Coke in their pork marinade. I guess the high acid content helps to break down the meat, and the sugar is their for flavor.

In Little Monsters, Fred Savage eats a peanut butter and onion sandwich. I've always been morbidly curious as to how that tastes.

The remake of Ghost ship wasn't exactly memorable, but there's this great scene in which two men kill the time on an abandoned ship by betting on who will eat the contents of an expired can. When one of them tries one spoonful, he decides it tastes OK, and they both start eating the cans like crazy.

Only thing, it is the cursed ship playing tricks with their minds, and eventually they realise they are eating rotten food and maggots and whatnot.

My folks used to talk about how Coke from the fifties could cook bacon if you left them in a pan overnight.

I hate peanut butter, but I'd be tempted to try a peanut butter and onion sandwich.  Do you remember what kind of onion?

No, but when looked it up online a red onion was recommended.

Maybe it's gross, maybe it's not, but the colored slop they throw in the food fight scene in Hook always looked so tasty to me!

Yes, but OTHER PEOPLE are. PINK FLAMINGOS also features a cannibal scene.

In Water's FEMALE TROUBLE The Dashers serve Divine hor'dourves made out of little mascara brushes. The expression on his face when he tries one is priceless.

And in DESPERATE LIVING Queen Carlotta (Edith Massey) force feeds Peggy Gravel and Grizelda a handful of cockroaches. Later, when the citizens of Mortville revolt they roast and eat Carlotta.

In Andy Milligan's version of Sweeney Todd titled BLOODTHIRSTY BUTCHERS one of the meat pies contains a whole breast - but the scene is shot so badly you hardly notice it.

In COUNT YORGA, VAMPIRE one of his victims eats an adorable little kitten.

In the same vein, the most disgusting thing I've seen anyone smoke onscreen is the pipe tobacco laced with coelacanth juice in MONSTER ON CAMPUS.

I'm not sure if this counts, but Tom Hanks trying to eat sardines and pretzels in The Burbs', is hilarious. As a kid, the film gave me the impression that only weirdos and axe murderers ate this stuff. Come to think of it, I still haven't tried them. Maybe I'll be brave this week and try them out. After a few beers.

In the movie White of the Eye (1987)  David Keith is asking his daughter to make him an applebutter baloney sandwich.
This is more of a unusual combination than actual gross I guess.

Peanut butter burgers in Twilight Zone-The Movie.
Surf II had a gross, fat dude having an eat-off with a zombie over stuff like seaweed, raw squid, garbage, etc.
In Temple of Doom there was also eyeball soup and live baby snakes for dinner.
Custard with blood in it in Dead Alive.

In "Lair of the White Worm" Angus Flint (Peter Capaldi) chows down on the local delicacy, pickled earthworms in aspic, not knowing what it is. And according to the director, Ken Russell, Capaldi was actually eating real earthworms in that scene, and much to the director's delight, Capaldi managed to keep 'em down, but then threw up after the scene was over.
