I'm trying to buy some new shorts, and I figured online would be a good place to look (I'm a rather large fellow, so a lot of my clothes can't be found in regular stores.) So I do a search and I find all these terms I don't understand... like what the heck are "cargo" shorts, for example?
Anyway, I just want shorts that have belt loops on them and pockets. I need some stuff I can wear outside, and regular, draw string type shorts tend to fall out after I add my keys, wallet and inhaler.
But what is the name for those type of shorts? Pants shorts maybe? I dunno...
Buy pants and cut the bottoms off. Instant shorts!
I would suggest finding a big and tall store near you.
Or...
Here's an online site where you can buy shorts:

And another:

Of course, the big drawback of buying clothes online is if you get them and they don't fit. Then you have to go through the trouble to return them.
Cargo shorts have those big pockets on the sides (in addition to the regular pockets) for you to put stuff in. They're usually OD green or khaki colored.
I have two pairs of cargo shorts and they're my favorite to wear.
JC Penney works well for me, they ahve a good B&T catalog

Well, I don't have too many pants to spare though.
Well, I know a lot of places to buy shorts I'm looking for, just curious if there's was a specific name for the type of shorts I wanted. (Sometimes in the pics it's hard to tell if they've got loops or not.)
Try these "Gladiator Shorts with ties":

Try the LL Bean Pathfinder shorts. I like them, and they come in two different inseam lengths. They're pretty much the cargo shorts that Ash mentioned. If you catch them when LL Bean has a sale they're relatively inexpensive.
I was wondering why no one's yet said "Ask Trevor, he knows his shorts..."
Yeah, cargo shorts have belt loops and big side pockets, as well as regular pockets. They're pretty much all I ever wear. The only thing I can add is try to find shorts with deep pockets. Since the pockets are on the side, stuff tends to fall out of them easier than jeans, where the pockets are on the front.
Types of shorts:
Board shorts are shorts for the beach, usually made out of a quick drying fabric. Most are drawstring with no pockets. You wouldn't wear these unless you tend to jump in water a lot.
Basketball shorts are those big, baggy athletic shorts that basketball players wear. Usually drawstring or elastic waist.
Dress shorts are pretty much the same as dress pants, only in shorts form.
Daisy dukes. You should probably just pass these by.

Really? You mean, you only wear pants, even during the warm summers days? Interesting.
